Disaster-stricken individuals, groups and communities need organized and systematic care for recovery, and a public health workforce that is competent to respond to disasters is extremely important. Nurses are the front-line health provider who deal with patients and can entirely determine the achievement in dealing with the next patients. The late response of nurses toward disaster conditions can impact on the chance of victim survival from death and disabilities. Meanwhile, skills in management of disaster can also impact on the readiness in dealing with disaster or massive number of victims.
This training course aims to provide the essential foundations for disaster nursing to the nurses to fill the need for responding disasters. This is a Video Conference (VC) based training course. This training course will start with the course consisted of lectures from several experts in Japan over 2 days in 18 & 19 March 2013. Moodle (Learning Management System) might also be used for syllabus and learning material distribution as well as effective learning process management of the course participants, where/if appropriate.
This 2-day course will cover the basic knowledge on disaster nursing such as triage, mental health nursing under disaster such as PTSD, basic emergency preparedness competencies and the emergency response role of the nurses at the evacuation locations etc.
