RELO at the Language Center, Hasanuddin University
Dr. Eran Williams - Regional English Language Officer, US Embassy Jakarta visited the Language Centre of Hasanuddin University on 16 May 2013. His visit was to thank Hasanuddin University, i.e. the Language Centre of Hasanuddin University for having warmly hosted Mr. Ronald F. Garren – English Language Fellow- for 2 consecutive years.
His visit was welcomed by the Vice Director of the Language Centre, Ms. Siti Sahraeni, MA together with the teaching staff of the English Department, Faculty of Letters, Hasanuddin University. Also attended were Director of International Office, Hasanuddin University – Dr. Etty Bazergan, Head of International Cooperation Section, Hasanuddin University – Dra. Sri Herryati Minarni, and International students and teachers at Hasanuddin University from Japan, Korea, and China.
The visit was concluded with an Indonesian food for lunch and the view of video on beautiful spots in Makassar - a video prepared by Mr. Ron Garren and students from English Department, Faculty of Letters, Hasanuddin University.

Visit from Griffith University
International Office Regional Director for Southeast Asia of Griffith University, Lucinda Chappel visited Hasanuddin University on Wednesday, 8 May 2013. The purpose of her visit is to discuss the arrangement for the visit of Vice Chancellor and President of Griffith University, Prof. O’Connor to Hasanuddin University on 11 June 2013. The Vice Chancellor’s visit is to discuss future research and capacity building opportunities with Hasanuddin University.

Unhas - Confucius Institute Held Performance Tour 2013
Hasanuddin University and Confucius Institute collaborated in Performance Tour 2013, Monday (15/4) at Baruga A.P Pettarani of Hasanuddin University.
The event was attended by Rector of Hasnauddin University - Prof. Dr. dr. Idrus A. Paturusi, Vice Rector for Student Affairs - Ir. Nasaruddin Salam, MT., Vice Rector for Planning, Development and Cooperation - Prof. Dr. Dwia Aries Tina, MK. MA., all the participants from various countries, also lecturers and students.
“Since the establishment, numbers of participants of Mandarin language course as of today is about 100 people. Also, we would like to inform that we have dispatched 40 people of our alumni to study in China for different disciplines“ said Prof. Drs. H. Burhanuddin Arafah, M.Hum, Ph.D as Director of Mandarin Language Course of Hasanuddin University.
In the event, various entertainments featured Chinese culture were presented. One of them was Taichi. Taichi is an internal Chinese martial art practiced for both its defense training and its health benefits. The event was conducted for two days: the first day was at Hasanuddin University campus, the second day was at Balai Prajurit Jenderal M. Yusuf.
Many Programs for Study in China
During the event, it was informed that many programs have been implemented by Kong Zi Xue Yuan (Mandarin Language Center) to support the development of Mandarin language as an international language and Chinese culture. These programs were offered by Hanban Government and Mandarin Language Center.
The first scholarship program is for Mandarin teachers to be qualified and skilled teacher The second scholarships are intended for undergraduate and graduate students consist of Master of Education for International Mandarin Language (2 years), Training Course for Students (6 months and a year) and Education Program for Students.
The third is Mandarin Language Course, Summer Camp in China, Training for Mandarin Language Teacher, Chinese Bridge Competition, HSK Test (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) and YCT (Youth Chinese Test).
Mandarin Language Center of Hasanuddin University is established through the cooperation between Nanchang University in China and Hasanuddin University in Indonesia, and is one of the six Mandarin Language Centers (Kong Zi Xue Yuan) that signed a cooperation agreement between Han Ban and Education Department of Indonesia.

Signing of Memorandum of Understanding between Kitasato University and Hasanuddin University
On Tuesday (02/04/13) ago, Mr. Takao Fujimura, Ph.D., from the Department of Dermatology, Kitasato University, Kanagawa, Japan, came to Makassar. During his visit this time after his previously visit in 2011 ago, Mr. Takao Fujimura, Ph.D. will discuss about some cooperation and extension of previous cooperation to be agreed between Hasanuddin University and Kitasato University. Around 9 am in the morning, Mr. Takao Fujimura, Ph.D. met the Rector of Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr. dr. IdrusPaturusi, SpBO along with Prof. Dr. Muh. Dali Amiruddin, dr., SpKK (K), FINS-DV and Vice Rector IV, Prof. Dr. Dwia Aries Tina NK, MA. Since that time, the cooperation between Kitasato University and Hasanuddin University will be developed into a broader scope, which previously inter-faculty, now are within the scope of inter-university, one of the cooperation between faculty of pharmaceutical and fisheries. Kitasato University School of Medicine and University of Hasanuddin has cooperated primarily in the postgraduate student exchange program since 2009. This agreement has been signed by both of the dean and is valid until 2014.

After visiting the Faculty of Medicine, Hasanuddin University, Mr. Takao Fujimura, Ph.D visit the Department of Dermatovenereology at the Medical Teaching Hospital Hasanuddin University and met the Head of the Department of Dermatovenereology,Hasanuddin University, dr. Alwi A. Mappiasse, Sp.KK, Ph.D, FINS-DV to discuss the extension of the cooperation agreement in terms of exchangeof dermatovenereologist and resident of dermatovenereology fromHasanuddin University to Kitasato University. Currently, the two sides agreed the student exchange to Kitasato University by 2 people over a period of two years to research and two months to learn about hair. The main end goal of this research collaboration is to manufacture leprosy vaccine, which until this time the leprosy case is still high in South Sulawesi. Now the export permit letter to export the leprosy patient serum samples still being proceeded and sent to the Research and Development Center in Jakarta for further action. With this letter, Hasanuddin University will be sent to the leprosy serum samples to Kitasato University in Japan to study and manufacture aleprosy vaccine.
The next day, Wednesday (04/03/13), Mr. Takao Fujimura, Ph.D with Prof. Dr.Muh. Dali Amiruddin, SpKK (K), dr., FINS-DV met the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr.Irawan Yusuf, Ph.D to deliver the deal that has been agreed and signed by the Rector on the previous day. After that, Mr. Takao Fujimura, Ph.D, went to Fort Rotterdam, lunch at RM Bahari, then headed to the airport to return to Tokyo, Japan. Hopefully, the cooperation between the two universities from different countries will runs effectively and gave the optimal results, especially in the fields of health and science development.

Hasanuddin University is Re-Collaborating in Marine Science with Davis Campus University of California
Through the Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries, Hasanuddin University is re-collaborating with Davis Campus University of California, United States of America by establishing Agreement of Cooperation. Prof. Dr. Dwia Aries Tina accompanied by Prof. Andi Niartiningsih welcomed the visit of Prof. Susan L. Williams of University of California Davis Campus. The cooperation agreement is to promote scientific activities, collaborative research, and international understanding of marine science.
There are fourteen points in the agreement related to environmental issues and collaboration between both universities. For example, the collaborative research on issues encountered by Spermonde islands in South Sulawesi, collaboration in academic and culture through exchange of students and lecturers, also exchanges of information on each other’s academic activities in the seminar and conference to support common interest.
“The cooperation is in waste management in archipelago, especially in relation to environmental management in Spermonde Islands. In addition, there is also exchange program for lecturers and students from undergraduate and doctoral degree,” said Prof. Andi Niartiningsih.
Hasanuddin University warmly welcomed the signing of Agreement of Cooperation between both parties, as Prof. Dwia Aries Tina – Vice Rector for Planning, Development, and Cooperation said: “We are pleased with the agreement, hopefully, the cooperation in the next four years can be implemented successfully”.
