Study program agro-technology was established as a result of merging three study programs i.e. Agronomy, Plants’ Pest and Disease and Soil Science, following the decree letter of Directorate General of Higher Education No. 163/DIKTI/Kep/2007 dated November 29th 2007 about arrangement and codification of study programs at higher education in order to simplify several study programs under the Faculty of Agriculture, Animal Science and Forestry. Faculty of Agriculture responded to the decision by forming Study Program Agro-technology on August 2009 which was the combination of the previous three study programs, and this new study program started enrolment in academic year 2009/2010
Learning method implemented in this study program refer to the policy of University of Hasanuddin i.e. to apply transformation of learning system to a method of ‘Student Centered Learning (SCL)’. This method includes personality, intelligence, professionalism, skill, adaptive capability and creativity.


Graduates of Agro-technology study program are expected to be capable in responding to recent and current challenges in Agriculture by application of science and technology in farm processing (pre-production, production and post-production). This should be based on sustainable and environmental friendly agriculture in order to increase productivity. Graduates are also capable in communication, building effective cooperation by complying to business ethics along with the main competencies attributed to the graduates of Agro-technology Study Program i.e.:

1. Manager, including planner, designer, organizer, evaluator
2. Agricultural technician, including extension officer, facilitator, mediator, etc.
3. Agrotechnopreneur, including initiator, cooperator
4. Reasearcher
5. Educator, as teacher, lecturer, trainer, etc


Agro-technology study program have 64 academic staff. Among the staff, 38 (58.21%) have doctorate qualification and 26 (41.79%) have master qualification. Among all the staff, 19 (27.14%) are professors. Based on academic qualification of the staff, 100% have passed the minimum target by government which stated that at least 50% of the staff must possess master qualification. It can be concluded that the quality and quantity of this study program in terms of competencies is good. It has been confirmed by the accreditation by the National Accreditation Board (BAN-PT) by awarding the highest result (A) in 2012 through decree letter No. 025/BAN-PT/Ak-XV/S1/VIII/2012.

Facilities include classrooms, laboratories, seminar room, reading lounge and library, all are air-conditioned with LCD projectors and internet connection. The library collects national and international journals, text books, proceedings, and students’ thesis. Network connection capabilities is now being upgraded by the installation of Wimax network.

  8. Laboratory of soil chemical and fertility
  9. Laboratory of Soil Physics
  10. Laboratory of Soil Microbiology
  11. Laboratory of Geographic Information System
  12. Laboratory Plants disease
  13. Laboratory of Natural Materials and Pesticides
  14. Laboratory of Cocoa Pest Organisms
  15. Laboratory of Insects and Plants Symbiosis
  16. Laboratory of Toxicology
  17. Laboratory of Pest and Diseases Biological Identification and Control

Each Laboratory is equipped with supporting tools and equipment for modules-related activities and experiments as well as researches conducted by students and lecturers.
