PROFILE

Laboratory of Plant Reproductive Biotechnology and Bio-science which is under the management of the Department of Agronomy supports education and research activities in the field of plant bio-science and biotechnology. This laboratory consists of two units or laboratory rooms, namely the DNA Room located in the Department of Agricultural Cultivation (Room BG11,208) and the Network Culture Room located in the Teaching Industry building, Hasanuddin University.

LAB ACTIVITIES
DNA room is a research support unit that includes: sample preparation, extraction, isolation to DNA analysis of bacteria, fungi, viruses, and plants as well as gene isolation and genetic engineering activities. Supporting equipment available includes digital scales, analytical scales, ovens, autoclaves, refrigerated centrifuges, water baths, electrophoresis, gel documentation systems, PCRs, Cyto-flow meters (Partecyflow Space), microscopes and other supporting devices. The DNA Room also supports lecture activities as a place for the implementation of practicum in Plant Biotechnology and Introduction to Agricultural Biotechnology. Tissue Culture Room is used for cell culture and plant tissue research activities, plant genetic transformation and plant tissue analysis. The tissue culture room is in the Teaching Industry building in collaboration with the Teaching Industry Seed Unit in supporting the Teaching Industry plant seeding industry. Available equipment include: autoclaves, laminar air flow, UV-vis Nano Spectrophotometer, Microtome tissue slicer and other supporting devices. This unit also received internship training on modern tissue culture techniques and household scales (KJSRT) as well as being a place for practicing courses on In-Vitro Breeding and Introduction to Agricultural Biotechnology.

TYPE OF ANALYSIS AND SERVICES
The Laboratory of Plant Reproductive Biotechnology and Bio-science provides consulting services and services to agencies or communities in need. The scope of services is DNA analysis and plant tissue analysis for the needs of biotechnology research, isolation and identification of fungi, bacteria and viruses and plant tissue culture. The scope of consultation includes seed production through tissue culture techniques, both conventional and household scales. Also serving in tissue culture training and in vitro seed production collaboration.

CURRENT ONGOING RESEARCHES
This laboratory is conducting research into the mechanism of the causes of VSD in cocoa plants through DNA analysis and identification of fungi. In addition, it is also conducting research into the identification of ring spot potty virus genes.
In the field of plant tissue culture and gene engineering, this laboratory is carrying out the propagation of hybrid orchids in cooperation with PT. Bunga Indah Malino and chrysanthemum tissue culture research which will be followed by genetic transformation of disease resistance.
Overall the research themes that can be carried out are:
- Analysis of DNA, chromosomes, cells and plant tissue,
- Identification of fungi, bacteria and viruses
- Genetic engineering (genetic transformation)
- Cell Culture Technology
- Plant Tissue Culture
- Household Scale Tissue Culture
