Master Program of Agroindustry Engineering


The Agroindustry Engineering Study Program is the Unhas Postgraduate Program which is given an operating permit by the Minister of Education and Culture (No. 119 / E / O / 2014 dated May 23, 2014) to conduct scientific studies and development in the field of agro-industry in an integrated manner between process technology, equipment and systems management in the management of agro-industry. Agro-industry techniques have a field of study on various agricultural sectors which include process technology in the fields of agricultural, plantation, fishery, animal husbandry, forestry processing and development of processing techniques and equipment needed and management techniques in the management of agro-industries.

The Agroindustry Engineering Study Program is designed to produce masters who have the competence to carry out analysis, development, design, process control, quality control and management and problem solving in the field of agro-industry. Agro-industry techniques include post-harvest handling, agricultural products industries, forest products, fisheries products, food and beverage processing industries, biopharma industries, bioenergy industries, follow-up processing industries, agricultural machinery and machinery industries and agricultural industry services.


Become a study program that actively studies and develops science and technology through innovative learning and research activities to produce superior human and science resources in the field of continental maritime-based agroindustry by 2020


1. Organizing quality education and developing innovative science and technology in the field of agro-industry to form computational, professional and academic ethics graduates.

2. Developing research that contributes to the development of science and technology and solving problems in the field of agro-industry.

3. Carry out community service activities in the context of disseminating science and technology and the results of research that supports the development of agro-industries in Indonesia


As an agricultural country with abundant natural resource potential, agricultural, fishery, livestock and plantation products need attention to increase added value. Therefore, agroindustry needs to be developed as a formal object with the opening of the Agroindustry Engineering Masters Program which plays a role in several matters, including:

a. Produce academics, researchers, practitioners, and managers, who are professionals in the field of Agro-industry.

b. Produce graduates who are able to plan, implement, analyze, and evaluate comprehensive agro-industry fields through inter and multidisciplinary approaches.

c. Produce graduates who are able to develop and manage research in solving agro-industry problems to support development and increase added value for people's welfare.


Graduates who are produced from the Graduate School of Agroindustry Engineering at Hasanuddin University are professional masters who are able to develop, solve problems, manage research and application of science and technology in the fields of technology, engineering, and management of agroindustry processes


The main competencies of graduates of the Agroindustry Engineering Study Program Postgraduate University of Hasanuddin are having the ability:

1. Developing knowledge and technology in the field of agro-industry to produce innovative and tested works.

2. Solve problems by analyzing and evaluating based on the principles of agro-industry.

3. Managing research that is beneficial to society and science, and obtains national and international recognition

There are 2 areas of expertise in the master of agro-industry namely: (1) Process technology, and (2) Process management. Graduates' competencies based on their fields of expertise are:

Process Technology; able to develop an efficient and productive process or bioprocess of agroindustry production with technological innovation in converting various commodities either chemically or biochemically, or physically / mechanically to produce products with added value and high competitiveness.


Bioprocess Engineering and Management; able to develop agro-industry with technological innovations in the field of systems engineering and agro-industry business, with the use of resources effectively to achieve goals, through activities or studies which include planning, organizing and controlling agro-industrial systems

Plant Protection



The economic and monetary crisis that occurred since mid-1997 has shown that agriculture is an important sector in Indonesia's national development. Therefore, progress in the field of agricultural science and technology should get priority in achieving national development goals.

Actors in the agricultural sector face enormous challenges because on the one hand they must still be able to increase the productivity of agricultural resources but on the other hand are required to be able to maintain environmental sustainability. To achieve this goal, sustainable agriculture (sustainable agriculture) is the best solution that has been proven to be applicable in the field of Agricultural Science and Technology. Sustainable agriculture in the field of plant pests and diseases is now a very popular term for Integrated Pest Management. Plant Protection emphasizes the management decisions of pests and plant diseases that are based on aspects namely ecology and economy. One thing that is very proud, it turns out that the founder of the concept of integrated pest management (IPM) in the country is Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Fachrudin from the Department of Plant Pest and Disease, Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddi University. At that time it was known as the "trio" of IPM actors, namely Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Fachrudin (UNHAS), Prof. Dr. Ir. Sumartono Sosromarsono (IPB) and Prof. Dr. Ir. Kasumbogo Untung (UGM). The concept of IPM has been time tested and can be applied to support sustainable agriculture.

Based on the foregoing to apply the concept of integrated plant management of pests and diseases at this time and its development in the future, reliable and resilient human resources (HR) are needed and explore Plant Protection Science and Technology which continues to grow along with the progress of agricultural science and technology. For this reason, Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) as a respected higher education institution in Eastern Indonesia and as one of the pioneering institutions of integrated plant pest and disease management technology (plant protection) in the country felt called to open a Master Program in Pest Sciences and Plant diseases that will support plant protection activities. Another fact shows that no more than 10% of graduates of agriculture (S1) in Indonesia can get a higher level of education (S2), while currently UNHAS graduated from agriculture (S1) every year around 500 alumni per year.

The effort to open a Masters Study Program in Plant Pest and Disease Science is also in line with the foundation and background of the Tri Dharma of Hasanuddin University, and is expected to produce reliable human resources and be able to implement plant protection and environmentally friendly science and technology to improve people's welfare to a more adequate level. Another consideration that underlies the opening of the Masters Program in Pest and Plant Disease, is that UNHAS has a Department of Pest and Plant Disease at the S1 level based on BAN Decree No. 010 / BAN-PT / Ak-X / S1 / V / 2007 dated May 19, 2007 had received an "A" accreditation, even though it has now been affiliated with the Agrotechnology Study Program.

The opening of the Masters Study Program in the Sciences of Pest and Plant Disease began with the formation of a work team by the Chair of the Department of Plant Pest and Disease, Faculty of Agriculture based on Decree No. 2211 / H4.12.PP.24 / 2008, September 16, 2008. Thanks to the hard work of the work team and the collaboration of all teaching staff the Department of Pest and Plant Disease can complete all documents preparing the establishment of the Master's Study Program. Then, based on Decree No. 73 / D / O / 2010, dated June 9, 2010 issued by the Directorate General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture ratifying the establishment and operational permits of the Master of Plant Sciences and Pest Study Program and the implementation of this study program beginning in August 2010.

The learning method in the Masters Study Program in Pest and Plant Disease is done by SCL (Student Centered Learning) which requires students to be more active in the learning process. Assessment of learning outcomes is based on the activeness of students in the learning process in the classroom, completion of individual and group assignments, middle evaluation and end of semester.

The preparation of the curriculum is based on Kepmendeknas No. 232 / U / 2000 concerning Guidelines for Preparation of Higher Education Curriculum and Kepmendiknas No. 045 / U / 2002 concerning the core curriculum of higher education by involving staff from the Department of Pest and Plant Disease and obtaining information from other "stakeholders". The curriculum for the Master of Pest and Plant Disease Study Program is divided into main competencies, supporting competencies and other competencies. In addition, curriculum development for the Master Program in Pest and Plant Protection still refers to the achievement of the vision of the Department of Pests and Plant Diseases, and the vision of the University of Hasanuddin and refers to the IQF.


The Vision of the Master Study Program in Pest and Plant Disease is the leading Master Study Program in Indonesia in the development of environmentally friendly science and plant diseases based on biological resources to support sustainable agriculture and be able to compete globally.



a. Develop quality education programs that are capable of competing in the fields of Pests and Plant Diseases.

b. Developing research in the study of science and technology on pest and environmental friendly plants based on biological resources.

c. Organizing community service through the application of environmentally friendly science and technology science and plant science to improve community welfare



To achieve this mission, the objectives of the Masters Program in Pest and Plant Disease Program are:

Produce high quality and competitive graduates and are able to develop and implement science and technology science and plant based on biological resources.

Produce studies that can be a solution to the problems of Pests and Plant Diseases through the innovation of environmentally friendly science and technology to support national agricultural development.

Produce community service programs that can be a reference in solving problems and in facing the demands of society towards global change.




Since the implementation of the Masters in Plant Pest and Plant Disease education in August 2010, the Study Program has graduated 31 Masters in Plant Pest and Disease Sciences until the graduation period of December 2014. Currently, the graduates of the Master of Pest and Plant Disease are spread in several higher education institutions, institutions research and institutions related to agriculture in government or private sector. It is expected that in the future graduates of this study program will take part in more work and contribute ideas in agricultural development in Indonesia, both in educational and research institutions, government or other agricultural sectors.

Food Science and Technology (S2)

Food Science and Technology


Agencies related to agriculture and food, both government and private institutions, and the food industry are the spearheads of the creation of good food security. In South Sulawesi in particular and in Eastern Indonesia in general, by looking at its natural resource potential, the opportunity to develop a food industry based on local potential is enormous. To answer the challenges mentioned above, the development of knowledge in the field of food is very urgent because the problems surrounding food must be resolved by professional and reliable personnel in their fields. Based on these considerations, it became the main requirement for opening the Food Science and Technology master program at Hasanuddin University as the largest university in Eastern Indonesia. The Food Science and Technology Master Program (S2 ITP), Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture Unhas began to stand based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education No 1770 / D / T / 2009 dated October 5, 2009. First batch students were accepted in the first semester of the 2010/2011 school year .


Making ITP's S2 study program as one of the leading education centers in Indonesia, in the field of research and development of food science and technology based on continental maritime-based cultural values.

The intended food includes plantation crops, food, horticulture, fisheries and livestock products.

The description of the meaning of continental maritime-based culture is as follows:

Agricultural Engineering

Master Program of Agricultural Engineering

The Agricultural Engineering Masters Program was established on September 17, 2009 based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of National Education No. 3019 and 3024 / 02.2 / 2009. Graduates from the Perogram Study hold an academic degree Master of Agriculture. The learning methods applied in the Agricultural Engineering Masters Program are independent learning processes or the Student Center Learning System (SCL system). Students are considered capable of organizing themselves in increasing their capacity. The lecturer or instructor of the course is only a mediator and motivator in the process. The learning system is carried out face-to-face (lecturing classes, discussions, presentations, and tutorials), assignments that directly apply the acquired knowledge and technology, laboratories (guided and independent), and semi-independent research and writing. The curriculum is structured in accordance with the vision and mission of the Agricultural Engineering Program and is based on references from several Masters curriculum in domestic universities and foreign universities, and takes into account input from agricultural development implementers and other users (state-owned companies, private companies) that can support the achievement of qualifications desired graduates according to the objectives of the Study Program.


As a leading Agricultural Engineering Masters education center (2020) based on the spirit of the Maritime Continent and global standard.

The Master of Agriculture Engineering Study Program is intended to produce Masters-educated graduates in the field of agricultural engineering with the following qualifications:

Agricultural Engineering Masters Program graduates must have the ability to identify, formulate and provide problem solving solutions, based on the principles of Engineering; Mastering concepts, models, designs, and prototypes to be able to design equipment and processes and manage natural resources; Mastering the engineering concepts needed to be able to develop science and technology.


Master Program of Agrotechnology

The Agrotechnology Master's study program exists to answer the challenges of the agricultural world in the future in developing continuous agricultural technology knowledge and innovation in order to increase production, increase product quality, product economic value, and efficiency of the production process. This can be achieved through the provision of professional, reliable and competent Human Resources in the field of Agricultural Science and Technology, especially in the fields of agronomy, plant biotechnology (agro-biotechnology), soil science, and plant protection, with specialization in tropical plant cultivation technology engineering and alternative food.


A brief History

The Agrotechnology Masters Study Program as a monodisciplinary study program at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Hasanuddin (Unhas) was first proposed to be formed in DIKTI in 2012 by the Rector of Hasanuddin University (Prof. Idrus Patturusi) and Chair of the 1st Senate Academic Commission (Prof. Dr. HM Noor Jalaluddin , MS.) As a master of agronomy.

On February 17, 2014, the Directorate General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture issued a mandate letter number 148 / E.E2 / DT / 2014 regarding the assignment of holding an Agrotechnology master program to Hasanuddin University, followed by a decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia number 310 / E / O / 2014 on 12 August 2014 with permission to administer the Master of Agrotechnology Study Program. So that the acceptance of the first batch of students starts at the beginning of the 2014/2015 Academic Year.


Field of Science Studies

The monodisciplinary study program of the Master of Agrotechnology is a study program that is included in the Applied Sciences Cluster. This field of science includes, among others, Agronomy, Soil Science, and Science of Pests and Plant Diseases. Related to other fields of science, the development of the field of Agrotechnology studies is supported by the Basic Sciences field, including Biology, Organic Chemistry, Pharmacy, and Statistical Sciences. On the other hand, this monodisciplinary study program supports other applied disciplines, such as Agribusiness, Regional Development Planning, Natural Resource Management, and Conservation.



Becoming the center of education, research, development, and application of competent, competitive and professional science based on science and technology in the field of Agrotechnology while taking into account environmental preservation and the cultural values of the Indonesian maritime continent that can solve problems and develop agriculture with an independence-based approach.
