Hi everyone, There were so many people I wanted to write to so I decided to write one email to everyone. I hope everyone doesn’t mind… Well, how are you? This is my third day in Geelong and these have been three tiring and exhausting days, and yet at the same time they have been interesting because I’ve met some interesting people… On the day I’ve arrived I was sooooo excited that I couldn’t stop smiling on the plane. People must have thought that I was a little crazy coz I just kept on smiling all the way to Geelong!!! But when I finally arrived in Geelong, reality suddenly hit me. I was in a place that I’ve never been to and I didn’t know anyone… That was a hard first night. I decided to go out to a dinner that was provided for the international students. I thought I was going to meet a lot of Asians and perhaps fellow Indonesians that could make my 1st night easier. Turns out, I was the only Asian from this year’s international batch. There are students from India but they didn’t join the dinner. The majority of the students were from the States and Europe. It turns out that they’ve all just come home from a two days trip to a beach and I was the only one that missed it so it was pretty hard because they knew each other and I didn’t know anyone. Well, I was determined not to eat dinner alone so I boldly came up to two girls and asked if I could join them. One of them was from Sweden, Sophia, the other was from Swiss, Ramona. We had a nice dinner and went to get some groceries. In the end it turned out that I had a lot in common with Ramona and we became good friends. After dinner I went back to the residence. I said hello to the students sharing my accommodation (can’t remember anyone’s name though… I’m terrible with names). After a bit of small talk, I went to my room and started to miss home very very very much. Everyone was really kind and nice, but there just wasn’t anyone I could call my friend so I suddenly missed home terribly! Bless the people who invented the mobile phone… I text some best friends and told them how sad I was. One of them gave me call and I ended up crying… I was so ashamed of myself for crying when I should be really happy to be here. But after a short talk with my friend and a good cry, I felt better, so it was all worth it. The next day was really hectic because I had to deal with my enrolment, my bank account, my student’s card, and etc. But two good things happened to me yesterday. The first thing was I met two Indonesian girls who study here and we had fun talking and laughing. The second thing was that last night, Ramona and I got sooooo bored we wanted to go to the city. But guess what!!! Everything closes at 5 and the last bus to the city is at 8!!!! I mean… We were stuck on campus with nothing to do!!!! So we decided to walk. It was so silly of us… If you’ve never been here, let me tell you what it’s like… It’s IN THE MIDDLE OF NO WHERE!!!!! There’s only fields surrounding you and there’s no way to go to the city without a car at night… It’s totally depressing… hahaha… well, anyways, Ramona and I had to walk 45 minutes till we got to the nearest place to eat… what else but Mc Donald’s… where ever you are on this planet, be sure that you will find a 24 hour Mc Donald’s there to entertain you… Well it was better than this crappy microwave dinner that I had earlier so we just stopped by and had something to eat… That’s the kind of adventure that Waurn Ponds has for you… Well, anyways, Ramona and I had a good laugh on how pathetic we were to have to walk 45 minutes to get to a Mc Donald’s… We felt like two people lost in a desert looking for water! Anyways, I’ve written such a long email I’m surprised if anyone of you are still reading until now… So, hope you are all healthy and have a great time where ever you are… I’m looking forward to house hunting on Monday and once I’m settled down, hope to get more action in my life (whatever that means)… Miss everyone dreadfully Yours Truly Dhika Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com -- No virus found in this incoming message.
