Technical Description

This unit is used to perform the vector addition of moments and to check the addition experimentally. A loose ball, with six arms at right angles to each other, is placed on a vertical column. Moments are applied by appending weights to the arms. An air pump provides for friction-free movement of the ball on the top of the column and thus the optimal adjustment of the equilibrium. A swivelling ruler is used to measure the effective lengths of the lever arms, an angle scale to measure angles.
