GL 212 Two-Stage Epicyclic Gear Apparatus Show data sheet (pdf file)
Technical Description
GL 212 consists of 2 identical epicyclic gear stages with 3 planet wheels each. They are coupled in a way that the ring gear of the first stage is connected to the planet carrier of the second stage. Up to 4 different transmission ratios can be realised by blocking single wheels. The gears are driven using a cable drum and a variable set of weights that are lifted using a removable crank.
Unwinding is prevented by a detent pawl. To determine effective torque, the deflection of a bending beam is used to measure forces. The speeds of the stages are measured by inductive sensors and can be recorded as speed-time diagram using a chart recorder. Effective moments of inertia are determined via angular acceleration. A transparent safety cover prevents unintentional contact with rotating parts.
