CT 159 Modular Test Stand for Single Cylinder Engines, 2.2kW Show data sheet (pdf file)
Technical Description

Setting up a power test stand for internal combustion engines with a power output of up to 2.2kW requires three main components: The CT 159 for installation of the test engine and as a control unit, the HM 365 universal drive and brake unit as a load device and a choice of test engine: four-stroke diesel engine (CT 151), two-stroke petrol engine (CT 153) and two four-stroke petrol engines (CT 150, CT 152 with variable compression).
The main function of the CT 159 is to hold the test engine, supply it with fuel and air and to record and display relevant measured data. The test engine is mounted on a vibration insulated base plate and is connected to the HM 365 by a V-belt drive.
The HM 365 is initially used as a starting mechanism for the test engine. As soon as the test engine is running, the HM 365 acts as a brake unit for applying a load to the combustion engine.
The lower section of the mobile laboratory frame contains fuel tanks and a quietening vessel for the intake air.
The vibration dampened display and control panel contains digital displays for temperatures (one display each for exhaust gas, fuel and intake air) and air consumption. The speed and torque are adjusted and displayed on the HM 365. All measuring signals are present in electrical form and - in conjunction with the HM 365 - can be transferred to a PC. The data acquisition function allows the signals to be stored and processed. Data is transmitted to the PC using a USB interface.

Learning Objectives / Experiments
In conjunction with the HM 365 brake unit and an engine (CT 150 - CT 153)
- Plotting of torque and power curves
- Determination of specific fuel consumption
- Determination of volumetric efficiency
- Determination of excess air factor
- Determination of engine friction loss
  (in passive mode)
