In a 2-stage compression process, the working medium, already under pressure and somewhat cooled, is fed to the 2nd compression stage (index ll) and there compressed again. The "stage" in the cyclic process (from point 2 to point 1 ll) resulting from the reduction in the intake temperature and the intake volume provides a saving in work compared to a single stage process. This benefit is indicated on the diagram by the red crosshatched area. |
