Technical Description
The HM 162.37 accessory contains 4 fittings that, in conjunction with the HM 162.32 Free Overflow Spillway Section and the HM 162.54 Base Plate, enable so-called dissipation structures to be simulated. The fittings included are a straight dissipation structure, a steeply inclined dissipation structure, a slightly inclined dissipation structure and a ski jump dissipation structure. Each model is placed in the free overflow spillway section and attached to the base plate with bolts. The resulting arrangement then represents the spillway with discharge area. A structure after a spillway in which the energy contained in the water is converted into heat and sound is termed a dissipation structure. This energy content is predominantly defined by the form of the discharge area of a spillway.
Learning Objectives / Experiments
· Measurement of the upstream and downstream water levels with different dissipation structures for a constant flow rate
· Measurement of the flow velocity of the water in the super-critical region with the aid of the HM 162.50 Pitot Static Tube with Digital Display accessory
· Observation of the throw range of the water with the ski jump dissipation structure
· Generation of different flow states by damming the downstream water


For measurement of water levels, the use of the HM 162.52 Hook and Point Gauge on the moving HM 162.59 Instrument Carriage is recommended.
