Technical Description
The HM 161.55 experimental set-up consists of 2 Plexiglass side pieces that are bonded to a base plate with water-resistant adhesive. The plate is attached to the base of the HM 161 Flow Channel using bolts. The unit has 2 specially shaped protrusions so that the flow is constricted by the set-up on 3 sides. The flow acceleration resulting from the change in cross-section leads to a measurable drop in the water level using which the flow rate can be deter-mined. The measuring device described here is also used in practice for deter-mining flow rate in channels or rivers.

For the determination of water levels, the use of the HM 161.54 Level Gauge on the moving HM 161.59 Instrument Carriage is recommended.
