Broad Crested Weirs Set of two

Technical Description

The HM 161.31 experimental set-up included 2 different wide-crested weir bodies either of which can be fitted to the base of the channel. Rectangular cubes made of PVC are used for the weir body. On one of the weirs the edges on the weir crest are chamfered. Tubular seals made of plastic inserted in slots on the side of the weir bodies complete the experimental set-up. The HM 161.54 Base Plate is required for fitting the weir bodies. In practice, wide crested weirs are used as so-called low overfalls.

Learning Objectives / Experiments

· Determination of the coefficient of overflow
· Complete and incomplete overflow:
- Comparison of the surface lines for the two cases
· Burble on a sharp-edged, wide-crested weir

For exact measurement of water levels, the use of the HM 161.52 Level Gauge on the moving HM 161.59 Instrument Carriage is recommended.
