Technical Description
The HM 162.55 experimental set-up consists of 2 Plexiglass side pieces that are bonded to a base plate with water-resistant adhesive. The plate is attached to the base of the HM 162 Modular Flow Channel using bolts. The unit has 2 specially shaped protrusions so that the flow is constricted by the set-up on 3 sides. The flow acceleration resulting from the change in cross-section leads to a measurable drop in the water level using which the flow rate can be determined. The measuring device described here is also used in practice for determining flow rate in channels or rivers.

For the determination of water levels, the use of the HM 162.54 Level Gauge on the moving HM 162.59 Instrument Carriage is recommended.
