Strengthening International Relations, UNHAS Welcomes Visit from Chief Religious Attaché of the Saudi Arabian Embassy

Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) welcomed an official visit from the Chief Religious Attaché of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Ahmad Isa Al-Hazimiy, on Thursday (8/5). The visit took place in the Rector’s Meeting Room at the UNHAS Rectorate Building, Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar.

This visit marks a significant step in strengthening cooperation between UNHAS and various religious and higher education institutions in Saudi Arabia. Sheikh Ahmad was accompanied by Mudir I-Salam Karim and Ustadz Dzulqarnain M. Sunusi.

Representing the Rector of UNHAS, Vice Rector for Planning, Development, and Finance, Prof. Subehan, expressed his appreciation for the visit and welcomed the collaborative initiatives being discussed.

“UNHAS is very open to collaboration opportunities, especially in the fields of religion and education. This is a strategic step to expand our international network, as directed by the Rector in strengthening institutional partnerships, including a recent follow-up visit to the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Jakarta,” explained Prof. Subehan.

He further reiterated UNHAS’ commitment to exploring diverse forms of cooperation across academic units. These include joint curriculum development, academic and scientific exchanges, collaborative research, and international publications.

During the visit, Sheikh Ahmad expressed his appreciation and enthusiasm for visiting Hasanuddin University, which he referred to as a center of excellence in higher education in Eastern Indonesia.

He emphasised the importance of reviving the scientific spirit and developing human resources through the values of Al-Kitabah (scientific writing), which has long been a central focus of the educational mission in Saudi Arabia. Sheikh Ahmad also expressed his appreciation for the contributions of the people of South Sulawesi who have pursued their studies in Saudi Arabia, thereby strengthening the historical and educational ties between the two regions.

This visit is expected to catalyse more concrete collaborations between Hasanuddin University and various educational and religious institutions in Saudi Arabia.
