Series of International Guest Lecture for Pharmacy Students of Universitas Hasanuddin

The Undergraduate Study Program of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Hasanuddin, routinely holds guest lectures (Lecture Series) which presents foreign lecturers. The guest lecture was designed for the Faculty of Pharmacy students during the 2020/2021 Academic Year. Foreign lecturers teach courses between 3 and 5 meetings from renowned universities in Japan, Australia, and England.

Today, Wednesday (7/4), the first guest lecture was delivered by Dr. Tim Weil from the University of Cambridge, UK. Dr. Tim Weil will provide courses for four meetings. Today’s first lecture was entitled ‘Life in Research’. Dr. Weil’s team would then give a lecture on Friday (9/4) entitled: “Model Organisms”, “From One Cell to Many” on Monday (12/4), and the last course will be carried out on Wednesday (14/4) entitled “Tales From Cell Biology”.

Dr. Tim Weil is the Deputy Head of School (Undergraduate Strategy) Department of Zoology, The University of Cambridge. This campus is the best university in the world, ranked seventh in the QS World University Ranking.

Formerly, a guest lecture was delivered by a foreign lecturer named Dr. Robert Kinobe from James Cook University, Australia, hosting five meetings that discussed rational antimicrobial therapy with a subject “Selected Topics in Antimicrobial Therapy; Pharmacokinetics Principles: A Focus on Drug Metabolism; and Pharmacodynamics Principles: Basic Concepts of Receptor Theory.”

Head of the Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Hasanuddin, Firzan Nainu, M.Biomed.Sc., Ph.D., Apt., explained that this guest lecture is one of the approaches to strengthen academic collaboration with international institutions to provide academic insight to students.

“Currently, the cooperation of the Faculty of Pharmacy Unhas in this guest lecture program has been established with several institutions in Japan (Kanazawa University), Australia (James Cook University and The University of Queensland), and England (University of Cambridge). We hope that this program can brush up the quality of education at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Hasanuddin. he said.

In addition, Firzan Nainu, Ph.D., Apt., explained that a collaborative publication with Assoc. Prof. Karryn Johnson (University of Queensland) and Assoc. Prof. Takayuki Kuraishi (Kanazawa University) had been published, and it is now being explored to see any possibility of doing such collaboration with Dr. Tim Weil (University of Cambridge) in the near future.

“We have to deal with the pandemic condition creatively. Students have not been able to visit abroad, so we present international education to students. Besides, this guest lecture program is free of charge,” said Firzan.

Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Hasanuddin, Prof. Subehan, M.Pharm.Sc., Ph.D., Apt., conveyed that providing guest lectures to students is greatly important in learning with an international touch.

“Apart from getting the latest information from the foreign lecturers, the guest lecture will also encourage students to gain more enthusiasm for knowledge and aspire to continue their education on reputable campuses abroad,” said Subehan.
