Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Hasanuddin held an International Conference on Social and Political Sciences (HICOSPOS) 2021.

Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas), through the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), held the Hasanuddin International Conference on Social and Political Sciences (HICOSPOS) 2021. This activity was conducted in a hybrid manner, offline in the Hall of Prof. Syukur Abdullah, FISIP Unhas Tamalanrea Campus, at 08.30 WITA, Monday (18/10), and online through the Zoom Meeting application and broadcast live on the YouTube channel of FISIP Unhas.

HICOSPOS is a biennial conference that is an annual agenda of FISIP Unhas, and this year is the second conduct and the first time did virtually. The topic raised at this time is “Post Pandemic Society: Governance, Democracy, and Human Security”.

The Chairperson of the 2021 HICOSPOS Committee, Ishaq Rahman, explained that due to being carried out in the middle of the Covid-19 Pandemic, this year conference was conducted in a hybrid method, combining offline and online mode.

“The committee received 134 extended abstracts related to the conference topic. After going through some processes, including deliberation, writing standards, and reviews from reviewers, the committee decided to accept 103 papers for presentation. The complete paper will later be published in the Scopus indexed proceedings,” Ishaq said.

The Dean of FISIP Unhas, Prof. Dr. Armin Arsyad, M.Si explained that this conference presented nine international speakers, two keynote speakers and seven invited speakers.

“We would like to say thanks to all speakers who spare their time and are willing to share their knowledge at this conference,” said Prof. Armin.

The keynote speakers presented were Prof. Dr. Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu, MA (Professor of Sociology and the Rector of Universitas Hasanuddin) and Prof. Vedi R. Hadiz (the University of Melbourne, Australia).

The conference also presented seven invited speakers from different countries as follows:

  1. Prof. Eiji Oyamada, Ph.D. (Doshisa University, Japan)
  2. Prof. Deddy Mulyana, MA., Ph.D. (Universitas Padjadjaran, Indonesia)
  3. Michael Buehler, Ph.D. (SOAS, London)
  4. Dr. Priyambudi Sulistiyanto (Flinders University, Australia)
  5. Nor Azura A Rahman, Ph.D (Universiti Utara Malaysia)
  6. Dr. Matthieu Grandpierron (ICES, France)
  7. Timo Markus Duile, Ph.D (Bonn University, Germany).

Through her opening remarks, the Rector of Universitas Hasanuddin, Prof. Dr. Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu, MA, appreciated the conference that FISIP Unhas consistently held. The topic raised was also an actual issue considering the pandemic community as necessary to be well-prepared.

“I hope this activity will present new and functional ideas from all presented speakers, Keynote Speakers, Invited Speakers from various countries, and presenters,” said Prof. Dwia.

HICOSPOS 2021 will last for two days until Tuesday (19/10). In addition to listening and discussing with the invited speakers as the primary session, the conference was divided into five sub-topics and twenty virtual rooms for parallel presentations.
