Hasanuddin University Commemorates National Education Day 2025, Distributes Educational Aid to 300 Students

Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) held a ceremony to commemorate National Education Day (Hari Pendidikan Nasional/Hardiknas) 2025 on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 07:30 WITA. The event took place at the PKM Field, Tamalanrea Campus, with this year’s theme: “Partisipasi Semesta Wujudkan Pendidikan Bermutu untuk Semua” focusing on quality education for all.

The event was attended by key university leadership, including the Rector, Vice Rectors, Deans, Directors, Heads of Institutions and Bureaus, lecturers, education staff, and representatives from various Student Activity Units. Also in attendance were members of the Board of Trustees, Academic Senate, and the UNHAS Women’s Organisation, all of whom joined in reflecting on the university’s continued commitment to advancing education.

The Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendiktisaintek) of the Republic of Indonesia delivered a speech that was read by the Rector of UNHAS. In the speech, the Minister emphasised that education cannot be pursued in isolation. The government requires support from the broader community, schools must build synergy with families, and universities must establish strong connections with both the business sector and society at large.

“The government is fully aware that education is a long-term investment in the nation’s future. Therefore, our commitment to the education sector continues to be strengthened — not merely through rhetoric, but through real, relevant, and well-targeted policies,” said the Minister, as read by Prof. Jamaluddin Jompa.

As a concrete manifestation of the spirit of collaboration, in this year’s Hardiknas commemoration, UNHAS distributed Endowment Fund Education Assistance to 300 students. Each student received one million rupiah, reflecting UNHAS’ commitment to supporting the continuity of student studies. In comparison, a similar program in 2024 supported only 86 students, following the availability of the UNHAS Endowment Fund at that time.

This program was initiated by the UNHAS Endowment Fund Management Agency, in collaboration with the Directorate of Student Affairs. The Director of Student Affairs, Abdullah Sanusi, Ph.D., stated that this assistance is part of UNHAS’ broader efforts to strengthen support for students who demonstrate strong enthusiasm for learning but face financial challenges.

“This reflects the spirit of cooperation and our shared concern for education. We would like to thank the UNHAS Endowment Fund managers and all donors who have contributed, whether from the academic community, alumni, or institutional partners,” said Abdullah Sanusi.

The UNHAS Endowment Fund is a sustainable funding program designed to support various educational activities, including scholarships for students in need. The fund is sourced from voluntary donations and the management of investment returns, which are continuously utilized to support strategic programs in academics and student affairs.
