Universitas Hasanuddin, as part of the 11 universities incorporated in The Australia-Indonesia Center (AIC), will participate in the policy dialogue Partnership for Australia-Indonesia Research (PAIR). This dialogue will discuss some essential agendas regarding transportation, commodities, and opportunities for people who live along the Makassar-Pare-pare Railroad. This activity is scheduled to take place on Wednesday (05/02) in Makassar.
In a written statement delivered by the PAIR research coordinator, it was stated that this dialogue will later involve some stakeholders from the national level such as the Government of South Sulawesi, the Government of Australia, and the AIC researchers from Australia and Indonesia.
After the policy dialogue, PAIR researchers will begin the development of a joint research project centred in the area along the Makassar-Pare-pare railroad and observe how the railroad can ensure benefits for local communities.
“The policy dialogue of PAIR invites several researchers and policymakers to meet, learn from each other, and explore possible opportunities that may appear due to the existence of South Sulawesi railroad track,” said Eugene Sebastian as Executive Director of the Australia-Indonesia Center.
The dialogue will also examine the compatibility of central and provincial policy and how researchers and policymakers can work together and share ideas, information, data, and resources in supporting the PAIR research program.
“The dialogue also will give opportunities for the researchers to listen to feedback about the issues from the national policy perspective. Of course, this is part of a demand-driven approach where we partner with governments, businesses, communities, and local communities in defining problems and making solutions together,” added Eugene Sebastian.
The Australia – Indonesia Center (AIC) has launched a program called Partnership for Australia – Indonesia Research (PAIR). This program is designed as an academic collaboration platform for researchers from Australia and Indonesia to respond to the development issue.
The program is officially launched by the government of South Sulawesi last Monday (18/11/2019) at Baruga Pattingaloang, Official Residence of South Sulawesi Governor. (*)
