SE 110.10 Experimental Set Shear Forces (Influence Lines) Show data sheet (pdf file) Print page
Technical Description
The set is used an accessory for the SE 110/SE 111 universal test frames to investigate the shear forces in a beam loaded with point forces. The shear force in the beam can be measured directly. This is made possible by the combination of a special low-friction joint, not rigid in shear at 1/3 of the span, and a mechanical dynamometer. The deflection of the end of the beam at the joint as a result of the travel of the dynamometer is compensated using adjustment bolts. The beam is loaded using sets of weight that can be attached to the beam at any point. Ball bearing mounted rollers on supports are used as bearings.
Learning Objectives / Experiments
· Demonstration of the section principle in mechanics
· Calculation of section load on the beam
· Progression of the shear force along a beam on the application of point forces
