Experimental Set Deflection of Curved Bars

Technical Description

This experimental set is intended for use with the SE 110 or SE 111 universal testing frames. The set permits the deflection of slightly bent bars to be observed and compared. The set contains a circular, semi-circular and a quarter circle bar, these are loaded using a set of weights. Transverse and longitudinal deflection are measured using position gauges. The bars each have the same cross-section and thus the same planar moment of inertia, this facilitates comparisons. The deflection is calculated in the instruction manual using the principle of virtual displacement. Due to its dimensions, the experimental set can be used both as a student experiment and for demonstrations.
