The Faculty of Dentistry of Universitas Hasanuddin Established Guest Lecture, Australian Speakers Presented the Craniofacial Surgery Procession

Hasanuddin University, through the Faculty of Dentistry, held a Guest Lecture, which presented an Australian speaker, Assoc Prof. Peter J. Anderson, DSc., DDSc., MD, Ph.D., M.Surg.Ed. This speaker is a lecturer at the Faculty of Public Health, University of Adelaide, Australia. The guest lecture took place in the Molar Room, Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Hasanuddin, Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar, on Wednesday (19/02).

Prof. Peter presented a material entitled “What is Craniofacial Surgery?”. In his explanation, Prof. Peter said that craniofacial surgery is one surgical procedure that focuses on the head and facial bones. Usually, this surgical procedure is taken to correct congenital defects, deformities in the skull, neck, or face.

“Because it is classified as quite complicated surgery, it requires adequate preparation, both in terms of the patient and doctor. Consultation with the surgical team is crucial. Before surgery, the doctor will explain the mechanism of surgery,” explained Prof. Peter.

Craniofacial surgery is usually recommended as a treatment method for certain conditions such as Craniosynostosis, a condition where the bone joints close too early, resulting in the patient’s head being smaller than normal size. So that the impact on functional problems sufferers.

On this occasion, Prof. Peter invited the participants to express their opinions on some of the cases presented. In addition, he showed many videos of craniofacial surgical procedures. The participants totalling around 100 participants seemed enthusiastic to follow the course of the public lecture. (*)
