The Faculty of Public Health (FKM), Hasanuddin University (UNHAS)welcomed an academic visit from Mahidol University, Thailand, during a Collaboration Meeting held at the UNHAS Hotel, Makassar, on Thursday, 16 October 2025. This meeting is a follow-up to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two universities, initiated by Prof. Yahya Thamrin, S.KM., M.Kes., MOHS., Ph.D., Head of the Master’s Program in Occupational Safety and Health at FKM UNHAS, during his visit to Mahidol University together with the Dean of FKM UNHAS, Prof. Sukri Palutturi, S.KM., M.Kes., M.Sc.PH., Ph.D., and the Head of the Occupational Safety and Health Department, Dr. dr. Masyita Muis, MS., in August 2025. Also present at this follow-up event at UNHAS were the Vice Dean II of the Faculty of Public Health, Prof. Atjo Wahyu, S.KM., M.Kes, and from Mahidol University, Thailand, Prof. Dr. Orawan Kaewboonchoo, Dr. Wisanti Laohaudomchok, B.Sc. (Occupational Health and Safety), and Dr. Sopa Chinwetkitvanich.

This meeting was an important milestone in strengthening academic relations between the two institutions, particularly in the field of Occupational Health and Safety. The discussion was productive and lively, covering opportunities for collaboration in joint research, lecturer and student exchanges, and scientific publications.
During the discussion session, the team from Mahidol University also introduced postgraduate programs and further study opportunities for FKM UNHAS students who are interested in continuing their education in Thailand. Mahidol University offers extensive opportunities for Indonesian students to join their international programs, with the support of modern research facilities and a multicultural academic environment.
Prof. Yahya Thamrin expressed his appreciation for this collaborative initiative and emphasized that international cooperation is part of FKM UNHAS’ strategy to strengthen its academic capacity. “The collaboration with Mahidol University will open the way for our students and lecturers to gain global academic experience, especially in the rapidly developing field of occupational safety and health,” he said. Meanwhile, Prof. Atjo Wahyu added that this collaboration is in line with the vision of FKM UNHAS to become a faculty that excels and is internationally competitive. “We hope that this meeting can be the first step towards the realization of joint research, student exchange, and dual degree programs in the future,” he said.
The event concluded with a group photo session and the exchange of souvenirs between representatives from FKM UNHAS and Mahidol University. This meeting marks a concrete step in strengthening regional academic networks and opening new opportunities for FKM UNHAS students to engage on the international stage.
