Four lecturers from the Vocational Faculty of Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) are currently participating in an international Training of Trainers (ToT) program hosted by Dalian Ocean University (DOU), China. The training takes place from 15 September to 11 October 2025. It is organized under the collaboration between the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development of the Republic of Indonesia and the International Cooperation Center of the National Development and Reform Commission (ICC NDRC) of China.
The program, titled “New-Quality Technician Vocational Skills Training Program”, aims to strengthen vocational education capacity and enhance the role of higher education institutions in supporting sustainable development in the marine and fisheries sectors. The official opening ceremony was held at the Library Multifunctional Hall of DOU and attended by prominent academic and government representatives. Among them were Professor Du Ming, DOU President; Li Dan, Vice Mayor of Dalian; and Cui Lin, Deputy Director of ICC NDRC China. Representing Indonesia, a video message was delivered by Muhammad Rachmat Kaimuddin, Deputy for Basic Infrastructure at the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development, who underlined the importance of this program for advancing Indonesia’s vocational human resources.

By engaging in this program, the lecturers are expected to gain advanced knowledge, technical skills, and valuable international exposure, which will later be integrated into teaching, research, and community service activities at UNHAS. This initiative also serves as an opportunity to build stronger academic and professional networks with international partners, particularly in the fields of fisheries, aquaculture, and vocational skill development.
Beyond individual capacity building, the ToT program is part of Indonesia’s broader efforts to align vocational education with national development priorities. It directly supports the Asta Cita agenda set by the Indonesian government and contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 14 (Life Below Water). With this participation, UNHAS reaffirms its commitment to advancing vocational education and strengthening the quality of its academic community through meaningful international cooperation.
