Universiti Putra Malaysia Strengthens Collaboration with Hasanuddin University’s Mathematics and Statistics Departments

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), welcomed a delegation from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), as part of a student inbound and academic collaboration program held from August 31 to September 6, 2025.

UPM, which ranks 134th in the world according to the QS World University Rankings 2026, included both faculty leaders and students in its delegation, comprising 22 students and 11 faculty members. They were received by the Vice-Rector for Partnerships, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Business, Prof. Dr. Eng. Adi Maulana, S.T., M.Phil., together with FMIPA Dean Prof. Dr. Sci. Muhammad Zakir, S.Si., M.Si., Faculty’s Professor, and department heads.

The program included joint lectures, curriculum and research meetings, as well as the UNHAS–UPM Joint Symposium on Mathematics and Statistics and Their Applications. In addition, students presented research proposals, participated in cultural activities under the theme “Sembang Budaya Serumpun”, and engaged in community service through a tree-planting activity at Pantai Bosowa.

In his remarks, Prof. Adi Maulana highlighted that the collaboration represented not only academic strengthening but also the establishment of long-term partnerships that expand research networks and enrich student experiences. The Dean of FMIPA, Prof. Muhammad Zakir, explained that after the initial discussions in 2024, this stage marked concrete implementation expected to produce joint research, scientific publications, and enhanced academic capacity.

From the UPM delegation, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siti Hasana Sapar, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Science, noted that the partnership was not limited to research collaboration but also served to build lasting connections between students and faculty of both universities. Another lecture was a presentation of UNHAS Overview by the International Office (IO), represented by Muhammad Ridwan, M.A. (IO Secretary), well known as Ridho. He explained UNHAS, including its campuses and its hotwire. A part of his presentation, Mr Ridho, also described the support services for international students studying at UNHAS. He closed his presentation by thanking the host and congratulating the inbound students joining the program.

The visit concluded on 6 September 2025, with both universities reaffirming their commitment to advancing joint research, academic exchanges, and cultural ties.
