Universitas Hasanuddin, through its Center of Excellence for Interdisciplinary and Sustainability Science of Graduate School, again established Seminar Series. With the topic of “Identifying Research Topic and Developing Research Proposals for Research Grant on Sustainability Issues/Science,” this seminar invited Dr. Sebastian Thomas from The University of Melbourne as a guest speaker. The activity took place in Dean Meeting Room, Graduate School of Unhas, Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar, on Saturday (08/02).
On that occasion, Sebastian Thomas presented some issues related to sustainability science, designing a research proposal, and impact sustainable science.
Thomas explained that sustainability science is a study that focuses on the development of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary environmental and scientific studies. This study sees humanity and civilisation’s future as a process determined today, so science should dedicate itself to sustainability.
“in developing this study, there are some basic abilities needed, such as systems of thinking, ability to anticipate, normative abilities, strategic thinking, and interpersonal skills,” said Sebastian.
In his presentation, Sebastian Thomas invited participants to interact and share research ideas. The basis is that each scientist can consistently conduct research following their respective fields of study or discipline but always pay attention to aspects of sustainability in the process and analysis.
The activity was attended by academics from the Graduate School of Unhas and ended at 16.30 WITA. (*)
