Youth 20 (Y20) is a leadership forum that brings together future young leaders and professionals from all G20 member countries to generate ideas and solutions to the current global challenges.

The future leaders from all G20 member countries were expected to discuss, argue, and exchange ideas regarding the agenda of the G20 Presidency. Y20 Summit was held in Jakarta, Indonesia, in July 2022 and Indonesian Youth Diplomacy (IYD) was chosen to be the official event organizer for the Summit. Y20 Satellite opens up a forum for discussion on digital acceleration and digital transformation for youth.

On this occasion, Y20 Satellite opened a discussion platform to explore digital acceleration for young people, digital transformation, and the role of youth in accelerating digital transformation.

Muhammad Fajhriyadi Hastira as the Chief Executive, in his report, said that the role of youth as a millennial generation is crucial in solving international problems.

Youth should be equipped with mature thinking and a strong stance in facing current and future conditions or situations.

“Y20 Satellite aims to create a forum for discussion as a provision for the youth of Sulawesi to welcome diplomatic and critical young people in maintaining the nation’s sustainability efforts in the international arena,” explained Fajhriyadi.

On the same occasion, the Governor of South Sulawesi in written remarks read by the Head of the Information Communication and Coding Office (Amson Padolo, S.Sos, M.Si.), stated that the millennial generation must adapt to digital transformation. The role of youth requires an attitude of maturity in facing inevitable social changes.

“The big challenge today is the rapid advancement of technology, so it needs to be strengthened with digital literacy. Hopefully, the younger generation will be able to maintain their attitude and improve their communication and speaking skills in conveying arguments and aspirations to the public, and most importantly in upgrading themselves with awareness of international issues.” Explained Amson Padolol.

The event was officially opened by the Rector of Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc.

In his remarks, Prof. JJ said that the Y20 Satellite is a momentum for Indonesian youth to contribute and exhibit critical thinking to make Indonesia equal to other countries and admired by the world and provide opportunities for the younger generation to take a role in world leadership.

“Everything happens because of the motivation and support and enthusiasm of the nation’s youth, so youth must encourage each other. I hope that the young people in this room possess determination and awareness in order to face the world. I expect you to actively contribute to the success of the Youth 20 Indonesia 2022 international forum,” explained Prof. JJ.

After the official opening, the activity then continued with a discussion with the speakers, namely Biondi Sanda Sima (Track Chair for Digital Transformation of Y20 Indonesia 2022), and Michael Sianipar (Co-Chair of Y20 Indonesia 2022) guided by Nurul Habaib Al Mukarramah (Research Intern at T20) as the moderator.
