The International Office (IO) of Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) recently held a Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO) on Monday, 8 June 2026, at the IO Meeting Room. The orientation was dedicated to 24 selected UNHAS students who are set to join seven prestigious outbound exchange programs. These international programs span several prominent global institutions, including the National University of Singapore (NUS) in Singapore, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), and Universiti Malaya (UM) in Malaysia.
The student cohort will also be heading to various destinations across East Asia and Europe. Three of the participating universities are located in Japan: Keio University (KU), Kanazawa University (KU), and Fujita Health University (FHU). Additionally, the outbound destinations include Vrije Universiteit (VU) in the Netherlands and King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) in Thailand.
To thoroughly prepare the elected students and help them navigate potential challenges during their time abroad, the PDO was structured into several comprehensive segments. The orientation kicked off with a session titled “Outbound Students as UNHAS Ambassadors,” delivered by Muhammad Ridwan, M.A. (IO Secretary). This was seamlessly followed by a briefing on “Academic and Cultural Preparation” by Khaeruddin, Ph.D. (IO Task Force for Mobility Programs), and a vital segment on “Student Wellbeing and Safety” led by Saaduddin, Ph.D. (IO Task Force for International Students Management and Immigration).
The final leg of the orientation focused on the logistics of living abroad and peer-to-peer insights. Kumara Tungga Dewa, S.S. (IO Mobility Program Staff) led a crucial session on “Practical Preparation.” The event then concluded with an engaging “Sharing Session and Question & Answer” anchored by Muhammad Aflahal Mukmin. Affectionately known as Al, he is a former IO Student Volunteer (STuvo) who has successfully participated in numerous exchange programs, allowing him to pass down invaluable firsthand experience to the next generation of UNHAS ambassadors.
