UNHAS Pediatric Dentistry Specialist Students Shine at International Scientific Award Competition

Students from the Pediatric Dentistry Specialist Program, Faculty of Dentistry (FKG), Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), achieved remarkable success at the Scientific Award Competition held during the 19th International Indonesian Pediatric Dentistry Association Conference (iiPDAC 19). The international conference, held in Makassar from 29 April to 2 May 2026, brought together leading pediatric dentistry experts, researchers, academicians, and practitioners from across Indonesia and abroad to exchange knowledge and discuss the latest developments in pediatric oral healthcare.

The conference was further honoured by the presence of Prof. Kitae Park, President of the Pediatric Dentistry Association of Asia (PDAA), who attended as a distinguished guest and speaker. As part of the Scientific Award ceremony, Prof. Park personally presented awards to the head of the study Program and also the winners and generously provided internationally recognised pediatric dentistry textbooks as special prizes, encouraging young researchers and clinicians to continue advancing scientific excellence in the field.

The outstanding achievements of the Pediatric Dentistry Specialist Program students reflected their strong academic capabilities, research competence, and commitment to scientific advancement. Competing with participants from various institutions, the students secured multiple awards in several scientific categories.

In the Scoping Review category, drg. Normayanti Sukma was awarded the 1st Winner, while drg. Aliefah Putri Lestari earned 2nd place. drg. Suci Haryati Amiruddin received 3rd Winner, and drg. Dwi Fitrah Ariani Bahar achieved 2nd Runner-Up. These accomplishments demonstrate the students’ ability to conduct high-quality evidence synthesis and contribute meaningful scientific insights to pediatric dentistry.

The students also excelled in the Case Report category. drg. Enny Febry Sartika Lumuhu received 2nd Runner-Up in the AIBK category, while drg. Grace Hilda Sondakh achieved 3rd place in the same category. In the PKOA category, drg. Vidiana Aren S. secured 2nd Runner-Up, highlighting the quality of clinical documentation, analysis, and presentation demonstrated by the students.

Beyond scientific achievements, the Pediatric Dentistry Specialist Program students showcased their creativity and cultural spirit by winning 1st Place in the Tabola Bale Dance Competition. The delegation also received the Best Supporter Award, earning 1st Place for their enthusiasm, teamwork, and active participation throughout the conference.

These achievements underscore the FKG UNHAS’ commitment to fostering academic excellence, research innovation, and professional development among its specialist students. The recognition received at an international forum such as iiPDAC 19 not only brings pride to the institution but also strengthens its contribution to the advancement of pediatric dentistry at both regional and international levels.
