Head of Japanese Consular Office in Makassar Visited Universitas Hasanuddin

The new Consulate General of Japan in Makassar, Mr. Yasue Katsunobu, visited Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas). His arrival was welcomed directly by the Rector of Unhas, Prof. Dr. Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu, MA. The meeting took place at 14.00 Central Indonesia Time in the Rector’s Room, Lt. 8 Rectorate Building, Tuesday (15/6).

Mr. Yasue Katsunobu served as the new Head of the Japanese Consular Office in Makassar. He started serving the office in April 2021 replacing the previous Japanese Consular, Miyakawa Katsutoshi.

During the visit, Prof. Dr. Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu, MA., welcomed Mr. Katsunobu’s arrival. She said that Unhas and Japan have established good relations in the scope of education, especially in several faculties collaborating with numerous universities in Japan.

“Unhas has collaborated with some universities in Japan to conduct numbers of programs, two of which are Kyushu University and Okayama University. Moreover, there have been many Unhas lecturers who graduated from Japanese universities” explained Prof. Dwia.

In addition, Prof. Dwia said the partnering relationship between Unhas and Japan can be enlarged through the Double Degree program at the Doctoral level so that the relationship that has been established up to this point can continue to be strengthened through educational collaboration programs.

On the same occasion, Mr. Yasue Katsunobu thanked all the involved parties for the warm welcome. As the new Consulate General of Japan, he conveyed the purpose of the visit that is to stay in touch and strengthen the cooperative relations with educational institutions in Makassar, Unhas in particular. He hoped that Unhas would continue to be the best partner of Japan even though the leadership has been changed.

“I am very glad to visit Unhas in person to meet the Rector, I have heard a lot about Unhas’ achievements. Hopefully, my visit can bring Japan closer to Unhas,” explained Mr. Katsunobu.

After discussing the relationship between the two parties, Mr. Yasue Katsunobu continued his visit to the Department of Japanese Literature and the Japan Corner at the Unhas Central Library, to see the facilities provided especially the learning facilities that are related to Japanese culture.

The visit of the Consulate General of Japan ran as expected which lasted up to 16.00 Central Indonesia Time.
