The heavy rain that hit the city of Makassar this morning did not discourage the enthusiasm of students to attend a National Dialogue at the Prof. A Amiruddin's Auditorium on Saturday (04/06/2019). Since 8:00 a.m., around 600 participants gathered in the event attended by academics as well as former Chairman of the Indonesian Constitutional Court, Prof. Moh Mahfud MD.
The National Dialogue is an independent activity initiated by Mahfud MD through the "Gerakan Suluh Kebangsaan". This dialogue discussed certain themes related to national values. This time, Unhas as the third campus for the implementation of the national dialogue took the theme “Milenial Wujudkan Indonesia Emas 2045, Siapa Takut?"
"This movement is not related to any political powers, we are independent, do not participate in any candidate pairs and any political parties," Mahfud said.
In its implementation at Unhas, this dialogue also presented speakers from the Gusdurian Network Indonesia (GNI) Alissa Wahid and a lecturer of Political Science, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of Unhas, Dr. A Lukman Irwan.
Around 9:00 a.m., Vice Rector for Student and Alumni Affairs, Prof. Dr. A. Arsunan Arsin MKes who represented the Rector of Unhas, officially opened the event. In his speech, Prof. Arsunan expressed his gratitude with the presence of Mahfud MD and team at Hasanuddin University.
"We have some extraordinary guests this morning. To Prof. Mahfud and other speakers, I am grateful to represent the Unhas Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu who is currently in the Netherlands," Prof. Arsunan said.
In addition, Prof. Arsunan also reminded all students who attended the event, that the position of the millennial generation is very strategic and would later continue the national leadership. To prepare for the future leaders, one of the efforts that can be done is the Gerakan Suluh Kebangsaan. In addition, Unhas is preparing for this movement, one example is the New Student Selection, Leadership Talent Development Program for the Student Council Chairperson.
In his presentation, Mahfud MD emphasized the importance of the millennial generation in preparing to face the Golden Indonesia 2045. He said that millennials currently face a digital era and disruption, where there are many unimaginable changes.
"In the past, people who want to do business must have a 'big bag/a lot of money'. Now, there is an idea that they can get a lot of money like Grab," said Mahfud.
Mahfud quoted the words of the First President of the Republic of Indonesia, Soekarno, that "Independence is a bridge to Indonesia in gold". Indonesian gold in question is a condition of Indonesia that is just and prosperous, civilized, and natural wealth can be enjoyed together. This condition is expected to occur in 2045, namely Indonesia is exactly 100 years old.
Mahfud explained his view on the issue that Indonesia will be disbanded in 2030. According to him, the Golden Indonesia 2045 may not necessarily be achieved or could be disbanded. In addition, Mahfud cited an example of the era of the prophet Muhammad Peace be upon him, there were two great countries, namely the Romans and Persians, which collapsed at the end.
"So Indonesia can be a golden Indonesia or disbanded, depending on how to use the golden bridge and the existing opportunities," he said.
According to Mahfud, the cause that will make Indonesia disbanded is if corruption is left rampant. Therefore, he emphasized that the big opponent at this time is corruption. He also hopes that millennials will take the lead in terms of eradicating corruption, including leaders selection.
"We can also determine a good path for Indonesia by choosing those (leaders) who can eradicate corruption," he said.
In the momentum of the election on April 17th, Mahfud also reminded the importance of pluralism. According to him, Indonesia is a very plural country and has become its nature.
"it is so unfortunate if conflicts occur only because of different choice of candidate pairs. Therefore, let's build democracy, build Indonesia into gold in the future. And most importantly, let's protect Indonesia," he concluded.(*)
