The Faculty of Dentistry at Hasanuddin University (FKG UNHAS) recently hosted a guest lecture featuring Prof. Paul Hatton from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom.

Held online on Friday, May 9, 2025, the session was part of the Dentistry Material Science and Technology Block lecture and was attended by the 2024 cohort of FKG UNHAS International Class students. The event commenced at 18.30 Central Indonesia Time.

During the lecture, Prof. Hatton delivered a presentation titled “Innovative Drug Delivery Devices for Unmet Clinical Needs in Dentistry.” He highlighted the latest advancements in drug delivery systems tailored specifically for dental applications, focusing on technologies designed to address challenges in areas such as periodontal infections, postoperative pain, and chronic inflammation. His presentation explored the use of nanotechnology, advanced biomaterials, and microscopic devices that enable localised, controlled drug release directly to targeted areas. These innovations are intended to enhance therapeutic efficacy, accelerate healing, and minimise systemic side effects, offering a more precise and patient-centred approach to dental care.

The lecture served as an insightful opportunity for students to gain exposure to cutting-edge developments in dental technology and their potential impact on clinical practice.
