SDGs Center of Universitas Committed to Optimizing Performance Targets

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Center of Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas) is a unit that facilitates and coordinates with various stakeholders to achieve sustainable development goals. We can see the commitment of Unhas toward SDG Center from the support for various programs and activities.

The Secretariat Staff of the SDGs Center, Muhammad Ulil Ahsan, explained that a couple of days ago, the centre conducted an Annual Working Meeting (Rapat Kerja) attended by all SDGs Centre members Board. The Head of the SDGs Center, Dr Muhammad Yusri Zamhuri, delivered SDGs’ general information for the new members.

In his introduction, Yusri explained that the goal of the meeting is an effort to optimize all divisions in the SDGs Center. In the meeting, the board will arrange program plans for the period of 2021-2030.

The meeting took place virtually on Friday (19/02), attended by the Board of Center, lecturers, senior researchers, and university leaders.

Vice-rector for Research, Innovation, and Partnership of Unhas, Prof. dr. Nasrum Massi, Sp.MK, Ph.D., conveyed that the involvement of Unhas in SDGs Global Ranking can support Unhas to be a World Class University.

Unhas participated in THE Impact Ranking 2019, focusing on 5 goals out of 17 goals. Therefore, it is significant to have policies and real actions to improve and optimize the SDGs of Unhas.

“We hope that the SDGs team can carry out its function properly. The future research should refer to the SDGs as much as possible,” explained Prof. Nasrum.

On the same occasion, Prof. Jamaluddin Jompa, as supervisor of the centre, emphasized the main principle of SDGs and the importance of the university accomplishment in the SDGs.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can not be done single-handedly. The main principle is that no one is left behind. This is a call for universities to establish the concept of Humaniversity. The university becomes one of the significant pilar in the SDGs achievement based on science-based policy.

“We hope that there will be coordination among faculties in the future. In addition, solving a problem requires collaboration with one another in research. It would be interesting if Unhas could mainstream these SDGs at the faculty level,” said Prof. Jamal.

The activity continued to a panel discussion divided into 9 virtual rooms based on the divisions in the SDGs Center.

In the plenary session, each division representative explained the design of their respective program plans. The centre will implement the programs in the future management of the SDGs Center to support the achievement of the 2030 SDGs target.

Through the Meeting, it is hoped that the synergy among institutions in Unhas to optimizing the SDGs will be stronger and more effective to realize the acceleration of the achievement of the SDGs in Indonesia in 2030.
