One of the scientists who became the idol of those who present at the International Stem Cell Conference on 28-29 May 2016 at the Hotel Clarion Makassar is dr.Taruna Ikrar, Ph.D. As he walked into the small room, endlessly many participants requested for taking a picture together with him.
When answering the participants question during the conference, a man born in Makassar on July 15, 1969 also chose to answer the question in Indonesian, although there are two or three presenters answered the questions in English.
'' I still love and use the Indonesian language, '' said the alumni of the Faculty of Medicine Unhas 1997 who also mentioned that had lots of experience by joining the '' Identity '' Publisher of UNHAS after his admission at the Medical Faculty of Hasanuddin around 1988.
As a father of three children, Taruna Ikrar has a unique distribution of the language used in his family. 'If my children are talking with their mother, they will use Japanese. When talking to me, they will use Indonesian language. And, if they talk to their friends, they will talk in English.”
Taruna Ikrar started to become widely known because of his article on Allafostatin system receptor (Alstar) which has been published in the'' Frontier of Neural Circuit Journal” on January 20, 2012.
Perhaps, because of his writings that he is now a specialist assistant Laboratory Xu in the Department of Anatomy and Microbiology University of California, USA, which is one of the most prestigious universities in the USA.
Taruna Ikrar is also one of a student activist in 2000-2003. He was the Vice Chairman of the Executive Board of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI). He has now become a member of '' American Cardiology College and the Society for Neurosciences Resources International Heart Association”, “ Asia Pacific Health Association Rhythm '' and '' Japanese Cardiologist Association".
While in Makassar, Taruna Ikrar was asked to share his knowledge especially to the students of the Medical Faculty of Hasanuddin University.
