Prof Harun: This is my gift to the Rector for the end of her term
Professor of the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) Universitas Hasanuddin, Prof. Dr. drg. Moh. Harun Ahmad, Sp. KGA., M.Sc., K.KKA, is listed in the Top 2% of the World Ranking Scientists or the most influential scientists in the world based on the ranking of Prof. John Ioannidis together with Jeroen Baas and Kevin Boyack from Stanford University and Elsevier BV.
The ranking result was conveyed through a scientific publication entitled Data for Updated Science-Wide Author Databases of Standardized Citation Indicators on Wednesday (20/10).
Prof. Harun is the only Unhas research lecturer included in the list of Top 2% of the World Ranking Scientists, which at the same time acclaims him as the only dentist in Indonesia who has passed his research.
In the Top 2% World Ranking Scientists published by Stanford University, the scoring matrix is based on a database of more than one hundred thousand top scientists. This database contains standardized information on citations, h-indexes, hm-indexes adapted for co-authoring, and aggregated indicators.
The scientists are classified into 22 fields and 176 scientific subfields. Data throughout the scientists’ careers are updated until the end of 2020. The scientist’s selection to be in the Top 2% World Ranking Scientists list is based on the top 100 thousand positions based on c-scores, with and without self-citation or percentile rank of 2% or more.
On an interview occasion, on Wednesday (03/11), Prof. Harun explained that he had never thought to obtain this achievement. Since the beginning of time, he has only focused on wholeheartedly making scientific contributions. Even when he started to focus on writing papers in 2015, he did not know much about Scopus or other types of researches.
“I can say that I am new to this. I just started to focus on writing papers in 2016. In 2015, my doctoral degree was completed. I tried to register as Head of Study Program but failed. However, this did not discourage me, and I positively thought that maybe I had not enough capabilities to fulfil the position. Thus, I started thinking about developing myself in other fields until I finally figured out that I got a tremendous interest in research and dedication, “explained Prof. Aaron.
As a professor of FKG Unhas, Prof. Harun has been actively involved in research and community service. To maximize his role as an academician, he has conducted collaborations with local governments in various scientific programs, like the Regional Government of East Luwu and Jeneponto.
Prof. Harun’s name was listed in the Top 2% of the most influential scientists in the world published by Stanford University and Elsevier BV.
There were only 58 scientists from Indonesian research institutions and universities who passed the classification.
Besides, Prof.Harun has been nominated as an excellent researcher in 2019 and selected as an internal research reviewer since 2015. He has produced numerous works, like publishing ten books containing his scientific writings.
“I am happy. Some people might think that it is easy to achieve this achievement; in fact, it is not. It even needs a very long process to reach the top. I have always kept my life principles called TIM (Trust, Integration, and Mindset) that heads me to keep contributing to the society,” added Prof. Harun.
Furthermore, Prof. Harun added that, in general, Indonesian researchers have an excellent opportunity to make the best contribution based on their knowledge by continuously maximizing their abilities and potential. The research conducted must be intriguing, have a novelty nature with extraordinary ideas by still prioritizing ethics.
“Well, actually, this achievement has to be a burden and challenge because it has me contribute more in the scientific fields. Even so, this is also my most precious gift addressed to the Rector for the end of her term. I am such a big admirer of her. She has several capabilities in various aspects, especially in religion and leadership. I truly hope that it can motivate the main researchers of Unhas to continue to be involved in various activities of tri dharma development,” said Prof. Harun.
