Universitas Hasanuddin and University of Nottingham Discussed Potential Collaboration in the Development of Tridarma (Three Pillars of Higher Education)

Rector of Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas), Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., warmly welcomed delegates from the University of Nottingham, the UK and Vice-President of People’s Consultative Council of Republic of Indonesia (MPR RI), Dr. H. Sjarifuddin Hasan, SE., MM., MBA. The visit took place at 1:30 p.m. offline in the Academic Senate Room, 2nd Floor of the Rectorate Building, Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar, Thursday (09/06) to discuss collaboration in various fields.

Prof. Pat Wheeler (Head of Power Electronics, Machines, and Control Research Group, Faculty of Engineering), Dr. Bagus Muljadi (UKICIS Coordinator), Dr. Louise Walker (Associate Professor of Midwifery, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences), David Ouchterlonie (Associate Director Global Engagement) and Shannon Baverstock (Senior Global Engagement Manager) also attended the visit.

To begin the activity, the Rector of Unhas, Prof. JJ, expressed his pleasure and pride in welcoming the Deputy Chairman of the MPR RI along with the University of Nottingham delegates. Prof. JJ described Unhas from various aspects. Unhas with various quality resources continues to make optimal efforts to develop collaboration with various parties.

“I hope Unhas can be involved in the UK-Indonesia Consortium for Interdisciplinary Sciences or UKICIS consortium program, which is a funding program to support collaborative research between Indonesian and UK researchers in the fields of green economy, blue economy, and so on,” said Prof. JJ.

On the same occasion, representing the University of Nottingham as well as the UKICIS Coordinator, Dr. Bagus expressed his gratitude for the extraordinary welcome from Unhas. He gave a brief explanation about Nottingham and the UKICIS program which was initiated by the Directorate General of Education, Research and Technology in collaboration with the Education Fund Management Institution (LPDP) and other parties.

Bagus said the UKICIS is a funding opportunity for Indonesian universities that want to carry out research with academics from the UK. The UKICIS is a consortium program between the UK and Indonesian universities that accelerates technology transfer through collaborative research.

“I am delighted that the UKICIS program has received tremendous support. This program is expected to be a means of gaining global experience. We do hope that Unhas can be involved and become part of the consortium and work collaboratively with the University of Nottingham,” explained Bagus.

Vice-President of MPR RI, Dr. Sjarifuddin Hasan, in his remarks said that the government continuously provides support for collaborative endeavors in producing quality human resources. Various collaborative programs carried out by universities are strategic steps that need to be optimized.

After giving a speech, the activity then proceeded with a discussion about opportunities for cooperation through the UKICIS program. The whole series of activities guided by the Director of Communication Unhas, Ir. Suharman Hamzah, Ph.D., was carried out smoothly until 02.30 PM.
