Faculty of Dentistry of Universitas Hasanuddin (FKG Unhas) and Faculty of Fisheries and Food Science of University Malaysia Terengganu, Malaysia, collaboratively conducted research on “Physicochemical Analysis and Innovation – Formulation of Toothpaste Containing Fish Bone”. This research coordination was established virtually using Zoom Meeting Application starting at 09.00 WITA on Thursday (03/06).
The event was attended by Muhammad Ruslin, drg., M.Kes., Ph.D., Sp.BM(K), (Dean of FKG Unhas), Prof. Dr. Edy Machmud., drg., Sp.Pros(K) (Vice-Dean for Academic, Research and Innovation), Dr. Eddy Heriyanto Habar, drg., Sp.Ort(K) (Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Alumni), Irfan Sugianto, drg., M.Med.Ed., Ph.D. (Head of Dental Education Unit), Dr. Ayub Irmadani Anwar, drg., M.Med.Ed (Head of Study Program (KPS) for Dentistry Education (S1)), dan Erni Marlina, drg., Ph.D., Sp.PM as a researcher from Unhas.
On the same occasion, a research team from the Faculty of Fisheries and Food Science University Malaysia Terengganu was also present, namely Prof. Alfian Zein and Dr. Nor Fazliyana Binti Mohtar.
Dr. Ayub Irmadani Anwar, drg., M.Med.Ed, as the head of the research team from FKG Unhas, said that this research aims to create an innovative product, “toothpaste containing calcium”, which is derived from fish bones. This toothpaste utilizes fish bone waste and is an alternative source of calcium.
The results of this research will also become the excellent product of FKG Unhas to prevent dental disease and prevent bad breath.
Muhammad Ruslin, drg., M.Kes., Ph.D., Sp.BM(K), the Dean of FKG Unhas, warmly welcomed the collaborative research. This time FKG Unhas is increasing the quantity and quality of its research. This coordinated activity is expected to be part of a real contribution as a solution to problems that exist in the community, especially in dental and oral health.
“This collaboration is also a form of our responsibility to promote the university’s reputation at both national and international level. It can increase Unhas’ achievement towards World Class University following the instruction of the Rector. This is also our effort to introduce FKG Unhas to the international world”, explained drg. Ruslin
