Universitas Hasanuddin Holds Webinar Series Discussing Humanities Studies with An Expert from Australia

Universitas Hasanuddin through the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) held a webinar entitled “Top Scientist Webinar Series” which is part of the World Class University program.

The event which presented a resource person, Prof. Charles Campbell Macknight from The Australian National University delivered a topic “The Uses of the Humanities With Some Reference to South Sulawesi” was conducted at 9.00 WITA online through the zoom meeting application, Thursday (07/04).

The Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation, and Partnership, Prof. dr. Moh. Nasrum Massi, Ph.D., Sp.MK was present to officially open the webinar. On the same occasion, he took the chance to explain that this webinar is not only a forum for developing information but also for establishing collaboration between universities. It is strongly believed that multidisciplinary application will broaden any potential or research results.

Prof. Nasrum further added that the theme chosen to be discussed in this webinar is very fascinating. Studying humanities could lead us to the ways how to think, reason, and raise questions in critical and creative ways. Besides, research on human experience will also help us gain more understanding of the universe. The works produced by the scholars in humanities can provide us a greater expansion of values from different cultures such as how to make arts or history of a particular civilization.

“Today’s webinar is part of the World Class University program issued by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. This program opens up more opportunities for Unhas to hold more international collaborations in the scope of science. Thus, in the near future, we hope this program can be proceeded by conducting collaboration with the Australia National University in various fields,” Prof. Nasrum explained.

After the official opening, the event was continued with a material presentation from the resource person, Prof. Charles discussing the importance of the humanities, with several references from South Sulawesi. He also provided an overview of the study of humanities and the research values that can be utilized.

The presentation was proceeded by the question and answer session moderated by Dra. Nasmilah, M. Hum., Ph.D (Lecturer of FIB Unhas). The event attended by roughly100 participants run well at 11.00 WITA.
