The rector of Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas), Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., warmly welcomed the team of Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center (MTCRC) led by Hansan Park as the Director.
The event was conducted at Rector Meeting Room, Rectorate building level 8th, Tamalanrea Campus, at 14.30 WITA on Wednesday (15/06).
MTCRC team members who attended the meeting were Mr. Shin Suk Kyung (Project Supervisor from KOHA, South Korea), Dr. Choi Jong Kook (Project Manager from KIOST), Ivonne Milichristi Radjawane, and Safri Burhanuddin (Chairman of the MTCRC Advisory Board).
To begin with, Safri Burhanuddin explained the purpose of the MTCRC team’s visit to Unhas was to explore partnerships with the Korea-Indonesia MTCRC program, with the main issue of marine and fisheries. The form of collaboration can be done through training for students in the use of oceanographic tools.
“As a commitment of our parties for this partnership, we would like to initially conduct a ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two parties. The MTCRC Program also involved other Indonesian universities like ITB (Institute Teknologi bandung). Unhas is by far the one and only higher education included in the collaboration.” said Safri.
On the same occasion, Hansan Park presented an overview of Korea-Indonesia Collaboration through the MTCRC which focuses on marine science and technology. The program has been establishing various activities such as join research project and capacity building that put forward a sustainable principle for the next generation mainly Maritime sector.
Responding to the presentation, Rector of Unhas, Prof. JJ, enthusiastically welcomed the collaboration plan involving Unhas. According to him, this is a momentum to further strengthen the Indonesian maritime region, especially Eastern Indonesia. He said, Unhas is sustainably committed to work together in maintaining and optimizing Indonesia’s maritime potential.
“Very pleased with the partnership plan to be carried out. For this reason, this needs to be discussed in a more in-depth manner and then conduct an MoU to determine the roles and responsibilities of Unhas in this program, “explained Prof. JJ.
The MTCRC is a joint research center between the Korean and Indonesian governments in the field of marine technology with several main activities, namely as a partnership platform for various institutional institutions, joint research and capacity building.
