Faculty of Economy and Businesss of Unhas Holds The 7th International Conference of ICAME Discussing Sustainable Business Innovation

The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Hasanuddin recently conducted an international conference entitled “The 7th International Conference on Accounting, Management, and Economics (ICAME) 2022” under the issue “Innovation Towards Sustainable Business”. The conference was performed offline at the Arya Duta Makassar Hotel and connected virtually through the Zoom Meeting application, Thursday (06/10) at 09.00 WITA.

Yanuar Nugroho, Ph.D (Yusof Ishak Institute, Singapore), Prof. Dr. Noor Raihan Ab Hamid (Asia E University, Malaysia), Prof. Dr. Johnny Jermias (Simon Fraser University, Canada), and Prof. Arief Anshory Yusuf, Ph.D (Padjajaran University, Indonesia) were present to become the keynote speakers of the conference.

In the opening session, the Dean of FEB Unhas, Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahman Kadir, M.Si, CIPM., highly appreciated the keenness of the speakers to be present at Unhas to share their valuable information and experiences through the conference. Prof. Rahman hopes that the conference will serve as a great discussion forum for various researchers to exchange information on the discourses of new economic policy in the post-pandemic era.

Prof. Rahman said, “This activity is actually a great opportunity, offering spaces for academicians to publish their research, which can provide a positive contribution to mapping Indonesia’s future development. Together with this conference, we hope that there will be numerous insights provided to shed light on current economic issues so that we will later be able to construct applicable solutions to them.

The Rector of Unhas, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc, was also present to officially open the conference. In his remarks, he appreciated the initiative and commitment of FEB Unhas to hold a series of conferences. He said that the subject being concerned was undeniably enticing to be explored, considering the economic sector is one of the criticalities affected during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I believe ICAME will become a forum for researchers to exchange serviceable information and ideas to find various sustainable business innovations,” explained Prof. JJ.

After the official opening, the activity continued with the presentation of material from the speakers. The initial material was delivered by Prof. Arief Anshory Yusuf on “Green Economy Recovery: Rationale, Opportunities, and Challenges.”

Prof. Arief explained that the green economy is an economic project that aims to improve the welfare and social equality of the community while reducing the risk of environmental damage significantly. In the post-pandemic period, this needs to be optimized considering natural resources/commodities dominate exports and economic growth.

Indonesia’s economic recovery after the pandemic is urgently needed as it has been significantly impacted by the pandemic. According to Prof. Arief, Indonesia needs to make a quick move to get over the economic conditions.

After the material presentations, a discussion and a Q&A session were then conducted. The participants actively provided questions and responses. The activity proceeded with a parallel session where the participants presented their papers. The conference is scheduled to last until tomorrow, Friday (07/10).
