Biochemistry Lecturer of the Faculty of Medicine Unhas, Ika Fitrisia, successfully achieved her Doctoral Degree in the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia (FK UI), Thursday (29/9)
In front of the dissertation defense that was led by the Head of Examiner team Prof. dr. Muhammad Sadikin, Dsc, which is a Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology FK UI, the mother of two children was able to defend her dissertation entitled “Effects of the Extracellular Environment Modulation Through Hypoxia and Alkalinization Towards the Glucose Metabolism and Survival of the Human Breast Primer Cancer Cell.” She was then announced pass, with an A grade for her dissertation.
Dr. dr. Ika Yustisia, M.Sc. that was born on 21 January 1977 in Bali, in her dissertation concluded that the extracellular environment modulation through the exposure of hypoxia increases anaerobic metabolism, pushed towards the cell dormancy, prevent apoptosis, and increase the breast primer cancer cell pluripotency (cancer stem cell –CSC) CDC24/CD44.
“Extracellular Environment Modulation through the Alkalization can increase the pH CSC regulation of breast CD24/CD44 through the role in carbonate anhydrase extracellular (CAe) and the respond of homeostasis pH cellular that consists of the growth of glycolysis anaerobic, leading to the suppression of proliferation, increase of apoptosis, and suppress CSC breast CD24/CD44 pluripotency,” stated the 2002 Faculty of Medicine Unhas alumni.
The promotor of Ika Yustisia, Prof. Dr. dr. Sri Widia A. Jusma, M.S., indicated that the effects of Breast Cancer Primer Cell Modulation Metabolism towards humans researched by a fellow student he supervised is a basic research that attempts to expose the tempers of breast primer cells that is a minor population sub in the overall population of breast cancer, and hoped to have a vital role in the progressive therapeutic resistance in breast cancer.
This research can be utilized as an approach to cancer therapy through the modulation of the environment, in this matter, the oxygen content. It may be that through the provision of oxygen and alkalization, that is required in the process of eradication tumor. Head of the Biochemistry Department Faculty of Medicine Unhas also as a promoter, congratulated her as her presence has successfully increased qualified capacities in the Biochemistry research field. Ika is the 28th Doctor that is produced by FK UI in the year 2016, and the 12th Biochemistry Doctor produced.
Also, present during the dissertation defense was her husband A. Rani Ariya Prajaksa, S.E., former Unhas Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Radi A. Gany, Head of the Biochemistry Department Faculty of Medicine Unha dr. Marheni Harjo, Ph.D., dr. A. Nurdin Mappewali, and a number of family members.
Her co-promoter was Dr.rer.psiol. dr. Saptelia Inawati Wanandi, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology lecture of FK UI. Meanwhile, the examiners include Prof. dr. Frans D. Suyatna, Ph.D., SpFK. (Professor Pharmacology FK UI), dr. Alida R. Harahap, Ph.D. (lecture staff Pathological Clinic Department FK UI), Prof. Dr. dr. Frans Ferdinal, M.S. (Biochemistry and Biology Molecular Professor Universitas Tarumanegara Jakarta), and Prof. dr. Abdul Salam, M.Safro., Ph.D., Sp.KT (Biochemistry and Biology Molecular FK Universitas YARSI).
