Entering university life marks the beginning of a new journey for students. Beyond academic pursuits, students also have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the campus environment, build networks, and gain insights and experiences from diverse backgrounds. Recognizing the importance of this early orientation, the Directorate of Internationalization / International Office of Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) collaborated UNHAS DAY 2026 with The 4th International Student Festival (ISF) 2026 as a platform for new students to explore the international dimension of campus life.
This collaboration featured more than 40 international students from various countries, including Timor-Leste, Tanzania, Nigeria, Liberia, Bangladesh, Somalia, Uganda, Pakistan, Jordan, Iraq, Yemen, Palestine, and Syria. The international students participated as booth exhibitors by presenting their respective countries and cultures through traditional attire, signature foods, and informational displays. Furthermore, several international students took to the stage to deliver cultural art performances, such as traditional dances and music, creating a vibrant space for direct cultural interaction enjoyed by new UNHAS students.
In addition to showcasing cultural diversity, this event served as an initial stepping stone to introduce the internationalization of UNHAS to students who are just starting their higher education journey. Through Student Volunteers, the Directorate of Internationalization / International Office presented on stage regarding various opportunities for students to gain international experience, including mobility programs and academic activities abroad. New students were also introduced to the various support services provided by the Directorate of Internationalization / International Office to assist them in preparing for and participating in international programs.
New students were invited not only to explore activities and communities within UNHAS, but also to start building connections with international students from around the globe. These interactions provided students with opportunities to learn about different cultures, practice cross-cultural communication, expand their networks, and envision international experience as an integral part of their journey at UNHAS.
This initiative directly aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By fostering cross-cultural understanding, global student mobility, and inclusive academic environments, the event supports SDG 4: Quality Education. Furthermore, the collaborative framework involving international students, volunteer networks, and global institutions embodies SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
The collaboration between UNHAS DAY and The 4th International Student Festival 2026 is expected to serve as a gateway for new students to recognize UNHAS as an open academic environment connected to the international community. Through direct encounters with students from various countries and early exposure to international mobility opportunities, students are encouraged to build the confidence to seize global opportunities throughout their studies, while actively contributing to the ongoing efforts of UNHAS to strengthen an internationalization culture on campus.
