The International Office (IO) of Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) conducted a field survey in Selayar Islands Regency from 14-17 May 2026, to finalize venues and activity plans for the 9th International Cultural Program (ICP) 2026. The survey was led by Saaduddin, Ph.D., the Person in Charge (PIC) of the 9th ICP. The program is scheduled to take place from 29 June to 6 July 2026, with activities in Selayar set for 2–6 July 2026.
According to Saaduddin, the survey aimed to ensure the readiness of key sites that will host activities highlighting South Sulawesi’s maritime culture and coastal ecosystems. “The team visited several locations designated for the Coastal Maritime Ecosystem program, including a copra production site, Pasi Gusung Island for the Social Interaction with Coastal Community activity, and the beach area selected for the Beach Clean-Up Campaign,” he said.
In addition to reviewing activity venues, the team inspected accommodation facilities that will host ICP participants, focusing on room availability and supporting amenities to ensure a comfortable stay for international participants. During the visit, the survey team also met with the Regent of Selayar Islands Regency, H. Muhammad Natsir Ali, who expressed the local government’s full support for the implementation of the 9th ICP. Saaduddin noted that the Selayar administration welcomed the opportunity to host part of the program, as it would provide international exposure for the regency’s tourism destinations, maritime culture, and coastal ecosystems.
The 9th ICP 2026 carries the theme “Exploring the Maritime Culture of South Sulawesi.” The annual program is expected to attract 50–60 participants from around 30 countries. By including Selayar as one of the main destinations, UNHAS aims to provide international participants with firsthand experiences in coastal ecosystem conservation, cultural immersion, and community engagement, while promoting Selayar’s tourism and maritime heritage to a global audience.
