On 23 June 2026, The Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), successfully organized a public lecture featuring Professor Ivy Carbon Esteban, a distinguished academic from the Philippines. Held at senate room, faculty of cultural sciences. The lecture brought together lecturers, students, researchers, and cultural enthusiasts to explore indigenous literary traditions through the lens of post-colonial theory.
Entitled “The Language of Prophecy in the Sinrilikna Kapallak Talumbattua (SKT): A Post-Colonial Reading,” the lecture examined the prophetic language embedded within Sinrilikna Kapallak Talumbattua (SKT), one of South Sulawesi’s renowned oral literary traditions. Professor Esteban offered a thought-provoking analysis of how the text reflects local knowledge, historical memory, identity, and resistance while challenging dominant colonial narratives.
The event formed part of the faculty’s ongoing commitment to promoting academic excellence and encouraging interdisciplinary dialogue on language, literature, and cultural studies. Through a post-colonial perspective, participants gained fresh insights into the significance of preserving and reinterpreting indigenous literary heritage within contemporary scholarship.
During the interactive discussion session, students and faculty members actively engaged with Professor Esteban, raising questions on post-colonial literary criticism, oral traditions, cultural identity, and the relevance of indigenous narratives in today’s globalized world.
