The Kulliyyah of Dentistry, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), has successfully hosted the 2026 Enrichment Program for undergraduate dental students from Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), Indonesia, held from 13 to 24 July 2026. The initiative served as the international community engagement (KKN) conversion Program, providing students with valuable opportunities to broaden their academic knowledge, enhance their clinical competencies, and gain international exposure in dental education.
Six undergraduate dental students participated in the two-week Program: Nur Afriza Putri Dali, Rafa Taqi Nashita, Alyah Thahirah, Naelah Azizah, Fadhilah Nur Cahyani, and Nabila Mulia Pinandita. Throughout the Program, the students were supervised and coordinated by Dr Tengku Muhammad Asyraf Bin Tengku Azmi, who served as the Program supervisor at the Kulliyyah of Dentistry, IIUM.

The Program officially commenced with a warm welcome by Capt (R) Assoc. Prof. Dr Mohd Haikal Muhamad Halil, Dean of the Kulliyyah of Dentistry, IIUM. During the welcoming session, the Dean expressed his appreciation for the ongoing collaboration between IIUM and UNHAS, encouraging the students to maximise their learning experience while strengthening international academic ties.
During their stay, the students actively participated in a wide range of academic and clinical activities designed to enrich their professional competencies. They attended lectures and seminars delivered by faculty members from various dental departments—including seminars on Fluoride in Dentistry, Health Economics, Ethics in Dentistry, and a Paediatric Dentistry tutorial—providing insights into current developments in dental science and education. The participants also joined clinical observation sessions at the KOD Polyclinic and the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) Department at Sultan Ahmad Shah Medical Centre (SASMEC@IIUM), allowing them to observe patient management and clinical procedures in a different healthcare setting.
To further strengthen their practical competencies, the students engaged in hands-on training sessions at the Multi-Disciplinary Laboratory and Training (MLT) Lab and Fabrication Lab. Activities included tooth carving practice and competition, intra-oral scanning demonstrations, OPG interpretation, cast pouring and trimming, and a hands-on microscopy session. They also attended case presentations in Periodontics, observed OMFS dental wiring procedures, and visited both the Radiology Department for an Oral Radiology session and the Dental Health Education (DHE) Room, enhancing their clinical reasoning, technical skills, teamwork, and communication abilities.

The students were guided throughout the Program by faculty members and staff of the Kulliyyah of Dentistry, including Asst. Prof. Dr Salwana Binti Supa’At, Asst. Prof. Dr Haszelini Binti Hassan, Assoc. Prof. Dr Khairul Bariah Binti Chi Adam, Dr Tengku Muhammad Asyraf Bin Tengku Azmi, Asst. Prof. Dr Syarifah Haizan Binti Sayed Kamar, Assoc. Prof. Dr Noorhazayti Binti Abdul Halim, Asst. Prof. Dr Ahmad Badruddin Ghazali, alongside other academic staff.
In addition to academic activities, the Program fostered intercultural exchange and professional networking between students and staff of both institutions. The students presented a community project proposal, took part in a campus and facility tour, and enjoyed social activities, including a dinner with dental students at Gerbang IM. These experiences allowed participants to gain valuable insight into different educational approaches, healthcare systems, and multicultural learning environments.

The enrichment Program concluded with a Closing Ceremony and Certificate Presentation, where students reflected on the knowledge and skills acquired and expressed their gratitude to the Kulliyyah of Dentistry, IIUM, for its warm hospitality and comprehensive learning opportunities.
The successful implementation of the 2026 Enrichment Program reflects the continued commitment of the Kulliyyah of Dentistry, IIUM, and the Faculty of Dentistry, UNHAS, to promoting internationalisation and equipping students with the global perspectives, academic excellence, and professional competencies required to meet the challenges of modern dentistry.
