Four Study Programs from Universitas Hasanuddin Obtain ASIIN International Accreditation.

Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas) continues to improve quality in various aspects, one of which is producing globally competitive outcomes through a learning process that has received international recognition.

International recognition from the ASIIN accreditation agency has been achieved by four study programs from two Faculties of Unhas: Faculty of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture Engineering Study Program) and Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (Mathematics and Geophysics Study Program).

ASIIN (Akkreditierungsagentur für Studiengänge der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik) is an international accreditation agency from Germany for engineering, mathematics and science, agriculture, biology disciplines. ASIIN international accreditation is an Outcome Based Accreditation.

Through an interview on Friday (16/07) with Dr. Ir. Prastawa Budi, M.Sc., Head of the Institute for Quality Assurance and Educational Development of Unhas, explained that the achievement of the four study programs is the result of the thorough preparation and experience of Unhas since 2016 in participating in international accreditation.

Furthermore, Prastawa added that the international accreditation assessed the four study programs’ track records, such as obtaining accreditation ratings by BAN-PT or LAM-PTKes, study programs’ performance in producing quality graduates, and adequate human availability resources to support the learning process and several other supporting indicators.

Based on this, the four study programs included in ASIIN Batch II accreditation meet the quality criteria set for inclusion in international accreditation.

“This achievement is a result of harmonious and synergistic collaboration between university and study programs in preparing accreditation documents for Self-Assessment Report (SAR). In the early stages of preparation, FGDs were conducted to share perceptions of the guidelines for SAR preparation. Thus, the commitment of team members becomes important and strategic in preparing documents in a disciplined and timely manner,” explained Prastawa.

During the online visitation, Prastawa said that there were no significant obstacles. The only obstacle lies in the network connection and the time difference between Unhas in Indonesia and the assessor team in Germany. However, all these processes were passed and resulted successfully.

Although four study programs are declared to have met the ASIIN criteria, there are still some relatively minor notes for the study programs. For instance, the need for study programs to develop cutting-edge learning modules and develop a more diverse assessment system to measure the achievement of CPL (Graduate Learning Caps).

“Currently, the four study programs are completing and improving the suggestions submitted by ASIIN. We should underline that the purpose of ASIIN accreditation is not only to assess whether the study programs have met the ASIIN criteria but also to provide suggestions and recommendations so that the quality of learning implementation becomes better in the future,” said Prastawa.

The fulfilment of the ASIIN criteria for four Unhas study programs means that the study programs are considered to have met the ASIIN standards and ESG (European Standard Guideline), which means the learning process is carried out quality standards that apply to all universities in Europe. Thus, the four study programs have an excellent opportunity to build partnerships with various European Universities.

He hopes that study programs that have received international recognition can make the best use of ASIIN accreditation for quality development through international cooperation to contribute to Unhas’ vision of increasing its global reputation.
