Indonesian Diaspora Webinar by Faculty of Nursing on “Psychosocial impacts of Covid-19 and Their Implication in Nursing Education: Lesson Learned from United Arab Emirate.”

The Faculty of Nursing (Fakultas Keperawatan/FKep) of Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas) held a public lecture entitled “Psychosocial impacts of Covid-19 and Their Implication in Nursing Education: Lesson Learned from the United Arab Emirates”. This activity is part of the Indonesian Diaspora Webinar Series conducted Unhas Taskforce for World-Class University program.

The activity took place virtually through the Zoom meeting application at 09.00 WITA on Monday (06/09).

The public lecture presented a speaker from Indonesian Diaspora, Muhammad Arsyad Subu, Ph.D., RN from the Department of Nursing, College of Health Science, University of Sharjah – the United Arab Emirates, Faculty of Health Sciences – University of Ottawa ON, Canada.

The Dean of FKep Unhas, Dr. Ariyanti Saleh, S.Kep., M.Sc., said that Fkep Unhas seeks to be involved in various activities to support the achievement of World Class University. This activity aims to improve international accreditation and to establish cooperation with international partnerships.

“FKep has collaborated with various overseas campus partners to facilitate students through international exposure programs and contribute to increasing international publications,” explained Dr. Ariyanti.

The activity was officially opened by Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation and Partnership Unhas, Prof. dr. Moh. Nasrum Massi, Sp.MK, Ph.D. He expressed his gratitude for the collaboration through a series of Diaspora public lectures.

Prof. Nasrum hopes that this public lecture can improve Unhas’ achievements as a World Class University.

“We hope that together, there will be more collaborations for research proposals to get international accreditation and recognition to improve the quality of Unhas education,” explained Prof. Nasrum.

The activity was then continued with a presentation by Muhammad Arsyad Subu, Ph.D., RN. In his material, he discussed a person’s psychosocial development during the Covid-19 pandemic, which caused an economic burden and the manifestation of financial losses in various levels of society.

During the pandemic, the changes affect the patients’ mental health, medical personnel, and family. Therefore, it is significantly necessary to apply a proper psychosocial intervention based on the mental issues that existed among the patients. The psychosocial intervention can be done either individually or in a group.

The public lecture went smoothly and was guided by Nur Fadillah, S.Kp., NS., MN., as a moderator and was attended by approximately 300 participants.
