International Cultural Program 2019 Opened, Involving Participants from 20 Countries

Universitas Hasanuddin through the International Office officially opened an annual event “International Cultural Program (ICP) 2019”. This year event, ICP 2019 took a theme “Maritime Culture In Indonesia: Marine Resilience and Historical Perspective”. The opening ceremony was held on Monday (12/08) at 10.00 WITA in LPMPP HALL B, Unhas Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar.

This event opened by the Director of Communication, Suharman Hamzah, Ph.D. In his opening remarks, Mr. Suharman hoped that this event can be a source of information related to Unhas for the participants.

"I hope this activity can provide benefits for all participants according to their expectations before the event. In addition, I hope the participants can share to other colleagues what they will get later after participating in this activity," said Suharman.

The Head of International Office of Unhas, Karmila Mokoginta, explains that ICP 2019 with a theme related to maritime affairs in South Sulawesi will focus on visiting locations in Bulukumba Regency. The visit in Bulukumba Regency will show participants about South Sulawesi's accomplished seafarers, including the beach, fishing community, and the Phinisi shipbuilding process.

“after the opening ceremony of ICP 2019, the participants will be guided for a campus tour. Firstly, we will take them to the library center to show Unhas facilities and services of some language corners from different countries. Then, we plan to visit the Teaching Industry and Unhas Campus Gowa” said Karmila.

35 Participants from 20 countries will be provided with material related to the theme carried out before making direct observations to the places to be addressed.

"We will give the lectures first, there are five materials that we prepare, such as maritime culture, Indonesian language and culture, fishing communities, and so on. This activity is complemented by field observations, in this case visiting Kajang and seeing the process of Phinisi Shipbuilding in Bulukumba," said Karmila.

On this occasion, Karmila Mokoginta hoped this event can be a form of promotion for Unhas in national and international level. Besides that, she expected this event will be an opportunity for Unhas students to build a network with the foreigner students.

"Information about Unhas can be conveyed to the freshmen students and to create a global interaction atmosphere to give networking opportunity among the students.” Said Karmila. (*)
