Universitas Hasanuddin, Universitas Halu Oleo, and UiTM Malaysia Collaboratively Established Public Lecture

Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas), together with Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Cawangan Pahang, Malaysia, and Halu Oleo University (UHO) Kendari, Indonesia, held a public lecture entitled “Tentative Global Lecture Series 2021”.

The activity took place online through the Zoom Meeting application and broadcasted via the UiTM youtube channel starting at 13.30 WITA on Tuesday (22/06).

The activity provided a series of topics delivered by several lecturers, including Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Megat Ahmad Kamal Megat Hanafiah (UiTM Pahang), Ramadhan Tosepu, SKM., M.Kes., Ph.d (UHO), Dr. dr. Rina Masadah, M. Phil, Sp. PA (K), DFM (Unhas), and Assoc. Prof. cHM, Dr. Nor Yuziah Mohd Yunus (UiTM Pahang).

The activity was officially opened by the Chancellor of UiTM Cawangan Pahang, YBhg. Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Ilham Bin Adenan. In his speech, he said that the development of a country indicates economic growth and education improvement.

Therefore, this activity can provide opportunities and experiences for students to contribute to the development of science.

“UiTM tries to attract international students to come to study in Malaysia. It is in line with UiTM’s role in increasing university partners between nations, especially Indonesia. So that students can exchange ideas and insights,” said the Chancellor of UiTM.

Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Megat Ahmad Kamal Megat Hanafiah, one of the speakers from UiTM, delivered a topic on “Building Academic Career: Continuing Studies at Postgraduates Level.” In his presentation, he explained that Universiti Teknologi Mara has 37 campuses and provides 498 programs.

Students can achieve the postgraduate program of UiTM by completing a study period of 1 year to 4 years. In addition, students present research findings as a condition for holding a Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) degree.

“Students must innovate and find new findings through journal references. Then develop professionalism with integrity and build effective networking,” explained Prof. Megat.

On the same occasion, Dr. dr. Rina Masadah, M. Phil, Sp. PA(K), DFM., as a speaker from Universitas Hasanuddin, delivered the material “Early Detection of Cervical Cancer.” She explained that cervical cancer occurs due to infection with the HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) virus. In 2020, 490,000 women worldwide had been diagnosed with cervical cancer, and 240,000 of them died.

“This fairly deadly disease can be found in developing countries about 80% of total global cases. Cervical cancer is easily transmitted by several factors, such as smoking, being exposed to cigarette smoke, having a family history of cancer, and lacking hygiene,” explained Prof. dr. Rina.

The Tentative Global Lecture Series 2021 is held for two days, until Wednesday (23/06). The second day of the event presented speakers, namely Muhammad Junaid, SP MP, Ph.D (Unhas), Dr. Nur Fakhzan binti Marwan (UiTM Pahang), Dr. Muhammad Arba, S.Si., M.Si (UHO), Dr. Nor Hidayatun bint Abdul Razak (UiTM Pahang).
