Universitas Hasanuddin hosted an International consortium entitled "The 10th International Academic Consortium for Sustainable Cities (IACSC) 2019". The event with a theme of "Creating Resilient Cities With Diverse Urban Resources" took place at IPTEK Building, Tamalanrea Campus of Unhas, at Makassar, on Tuesday (27/08).
The IACSC 2019 invited two Keynote Speakers who represented Universitas Hasanuddin and Yokohama City University. Prof. Dr. Eng. Dadang Ahmad Suriamihardja, M.Eng. (the representative of Universitas Hasanuddin) gave a 15-minutes lecture entitled "The Beauty of Interconnected Patterns". The representative speaker of Yokohama City University was Prof. Hidefumi Imura. He presented his lecture under the topic of "Land Reclamation and Coastal Urban Development – Lessons From Japan".
There were also three invited speakers from Universitas Hasanuddin and Universiti Sains Malaysia. Firstly, Prof. Ngai Weng Chan (Professor for Environmental Management, School of Literature, Universiti Sains Malaysia) presented a topic of "Environmental Impact and Its Implication of Land Reclamation: Case of Penang And Malaysia". Secondly, Professor Badaruddin Mohamed (Professor for Tourism, School of Housing, Building, and Planning, Universiti Sains Malaysia) delivered a topic of “Land Reclamation Issue from Urban Planning and Tourism Viewpoint”. At last, a topic set entitled "Revitalizing Informal Settlements and Their Environment" was presented by Ansariadi, Ph.D (Universitas Hasanuddin).
The event was opened by Vice-dean for Academic Affairs of Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Ir. Baharuddin, ST., M. Arch., Ph.D. In his opening remarks, he warmly welcomed the participants from some universities contributed in the consortium. He believed the event will bring new knowledge from the expert speakers of the Development of Sustainable Cities.
"Representing the Rector of Unhas, we warmly welcome all speakers and participants. We are very pleased with your presence in Makassar, especially at Unhas. We believe this activity will bring new experiences and knowledge to us all,” said Prof Baharuddin.
Dr. Eng. Ihsan, as chief of committee explained that this event basically is a consortium related to eco-friendly sustainable cities.
"The core of this event is sustainable cities. The keynote speakers are experts of this discussion topic here, we surely hope that the topic is so interesting, therefore the participants can be actively engaged in the question and answer session.” Said Ihsan.
Dr. Muh. Iqbal Djawad, the Director of Partnership added that the event started with 4-days workshop before the consortium attended by 45 students from 7 different Universities. He hoped this event can be a good step for Unhas to actively involve for Indonesia in terms of the Development of Sustainable and Eco-friendly Cities.
“Today, we are conduct The 10th International Academic Consortium for Sustainable Cities (IACSC) 2019. 7 universities involved in this Sustainable Cities Networking. Unhas just joined the network about 4 years ago and last year Unhas was appointed to be a Host in 2019,” Said Iqbal.
The Consortium presented 7 Universities, as follows:
1. Yokohama City University, Japan;
2. University Of Nigata Prefecture, Japan;
3. University Sains Malaysia, Malaysia;
4. Thammasat University, Thailand;
5. Vietnam National University USSH, Vietnam;
6. University Of The Philippines, Philippines;
7. Hasanuddin University, Indonesia.
The Consortium which attended by more than 100 participants including 45 students from 7 consortium members and 55 students from Uiversitas Hasanuddin took part in IPTEK Building for two days.(*)
